Linda Mar 08.14.07

Got a call from my personal scout (jselli)  "Birds working"....that's all I needed to hear. So I got off work and got home in record time....loaded the kayak and off to Linda Mar. Got to the launch at 6PM....some big rollers were present and the pelicans were all over the place  The fog was thick just past the nipple and no wind to deal with. The launch was WET - had 3 waves break over my bow before I got to the safe zone. I rigged up my "secret striper lure"  and trolled right next to the breakers....after 2 hours of covering the entire cove, I finally got a solid hit "HULI KA!!!". My Trevala / Avet combo came to life  I paddled a few more strokes to get a better hookset and grabed my rod and started reeling in  Here I'am thinking that this will be my first ocean striper off the kayak....but it was not meant to be 

The good news is that I finally won a bet with Papa Bill....the story is: About 2 years ago, Bill went to Mel Cottons and bought this fancy looking lure called the "Chin Spin" which was basically a better looking "Road Runner"....anywhoo, Bill showed me the lure and I thought it was da bomb  I had him buy me two of each in all the different sizes. As soon as I got 'em, Bill and I fished these lures exclusively for about 4to 5 trips.....AND NO FISH TO SHOW FOR  Even the blues and the blacks in Big Sur did not want anything to do with it (now that's really sad ). So, it was standing joke between us eversince then....we finally agreed to make a bet: The first to catch ANY type of fish with the Chin Spin gets a free sushi dinner 

WELL LONG AND BEHOLD  The mighty Chin Spin....after two years of use, finally made it's debut......

Don't really know for sure, but I've caught most of 'em in the Bay...we just referred to 'em as Sand Sharks.

Anyone else out at Linda Mar yesterday?? Reason I ask, my GF and I took our new yaks out for some practice surf entry and paddling (before I bring my fishing rod) and we saw tow people out on the water fishing in yaks.  Wondered if they were from this group?
          And on the same note, we were out off the rocks near rockaway point and we saw a couple dolphin. Then we saw what "looked like a shark".  About three feet long, came out of the water chasing baitfish, white belly, big mouth with teeth? Do the sharks you caught Mooch come to the top like that?  And yep, my GF was REAL happy about the possibility of sharks....

I have seen small sharks go airborne chasing bait just outside the golden gate. In about 10-20fow, just off a sandy beach.

I was out there on a yellow Ocean Kayak and there was another dude in a red sin-inside-kayak...he was surfing and not fishing.

I did see a couple of dolphins too - same area you saw 'em.

The shark you saw might have been a small Thresher Shark - I know two have been caught at Linda Mar by NCKA'ers in the past (JTF and Sturgy). Or, it could have been a juvenile GWS....

What time were you out there?

Does the "chin spin" come with the rubber worm tail or did you add that?  I'm pretty sure if you added it, the catch is void and that you haven't won the bet yet and Bill doesn't owe you Sushi dinner.

         We were out around 3 oclock. The two yaks I saw, one yellow SOT, one blue SIK.  And just as we were getting out of the water saw two guys in a tandem set for fishing launch off the south end of linda mar. Just drove by 5 minutes ago, baitfish and birds still going haywire out there-also off rockaway. Must be at least 20 surf fisherman as well. I plan on getting out there around 230 today and see what happens.

....but Brian, modifications has always been part of my arsenal.....you should know that about me by now And besides, I did have a legal net with me at the time of the catch   Oh, and I also get additional credit for catching a fish with a lure instead of LIVE BAIT  

....now go back to work and stop busting my chops
