1st legal lingcod in Santa Cruz. Was 30 inches and got it on a 5 inch swimbait and jig head. Super excited since it was also my 1st fish on a swimbait.

Congrats and nice job! Swimbait is my goto for sure. I tie a teaser above it and usually get rockfish on the teaser and lingcod on the swimbait.

Always nice to get a fish trying a new technique.  I remember getting striper slam on my first topwater... fun stuff.

That's a nice ling.. congrats

Awesome! It gives me hope for tomorrow.

Was it as windy as predicted?

Got off the water at 1:30 and the wind was still not too bad

The wind forecast that day never came to fruition.  Prior to 11 am, the wind was light and variable and then it picked up to maybe 4 or 5 knots gusting to 6 or 8 for the first half of the afternoon.  I got off the water around 3 and the 15 knots they were forecasting were still nowhere to be found.

That is a really nice lingcod for that area, especially so early in the season.
