My son is coming home this weekend and I am considering crabbing at Doran Beach.  Around Thanksgiving was the last time we gave it a try.  Caught a bunch of small Dungeness and a few keeper Rock crab.  Fairly new to kayak fishing and am curious if anyone has had any luck at Doran recently?  Thanks Jeff

I got 1 legal male and 4 females yesterday snaring @ Cambell cove, so 1 male for dinner and I was happy..
But it’s been tough for crab this year @doran... (for me)
Good Luck!

Thanks Scotty,  I understand that it has been a slow year.  We always have fun on the water even if things are slow.

I just went out to Doran Wednesday morning - paddled out about a mile and soaked traps from 8am till about noon when the wind started to pick up. Only 2 keeper Dungies and tons of red rocks that got thrown back. The 3 other kayakers I saw all got skunked but they only paddled out to the end of the jetty.

I’m gonna give it a try early April so I’ll let you guys know how I do. Any tips on bait? Was gonna use sardine/ squid in the scent pail and hang some chicken on the bone in the trap. Any other tips?

Doran is a beautiful area. I ended up throwing back about a half dozen shorts yesterday from Campbell Cove snaring roadside group and others did the same for about three to four hours of hanging around and enjoying the sunshine. Just did not want to go out yesterday in the yak, although it looked like a nice day.

Any other tips?

Heard some guys cook there crab outside if the wifeys and such don't like the smell.

Also heard that crabs get softer later in the year with less meat yield? I haven't crabbed much tho.

Crabs sure are delicious and fun stuff yes sirs  :yak

So here is the rest of the story!  My son gets home Friday afternoon and I propose to him that we go crabbing Saturday. His immediate response was "No, I just want to chill"  Oh well maybe next time!

Yep! Pretty classic, you never know with kids (21 years old).  He does love to fish though!
