Wendy and I started looking last night. But I got a tell ya everything looks cheap , like tinsel on the inside. And these are the $700- $800 models so I figured I’d ask around

I don’t mind dropping money on a good appliance but I gotta say I was a bit underwhelmed
I figured.  I bet if if we dropped 1500 it would be only prettier not better technology.  Maybe it’s a warranty scam. I wonder if limited 21st century water pressure design makes for crusty dishes. We’ll see..

we got close , about 30-35 about as long as we`ve had the house
We bought our house 15 years ago and that’s the new death rate for appliances including the microwave...door already cracked on our new one.

Way back in the day when i sold appliances. Whirlpool was a very reliable, reasonably priced dishwasher . What you want to look for is the decibel rating if quietness is what  matters to you. Bosch made some of the quietest dishwashers but the tub interior was usually smaller. Shouldn't make a difference unless you have a large family.

You really don't need to spend more than 500 or so on a great dishwasher in my opinion. Unless you want a lot of extra bells and whistles. The only other extra i look for is that the top shelf removes so you can wash large pots or the dog in one shot.  :smt002

We lost our local sears here in Salinas otherwise i could have made a trip over to find a good recommendation for you. Happy hunting. They carried a lot of brands.

Pretty much echo what Alex said. I’ve installed 6 or 7 in the last 10 years. I’ve mostly gone with those models around $500. Majority were from Sears either Kenmore or Whirlpool. Many of our facilities do two loads per day. We expect them to last about 10 years at that frequency.

I usually target sale models with stainless tubs and steam sanitize feature. One aside was for a site that had counters at ADA height,(lower by about 1-1/2”) there I went with a Fisher & Paykel drawer model as it would fit.

That one was over $1k, two drawers, independent cycles, etc. It had emptying issues and temperature deficiencies after a few months. Following warranty repairs and some component replacement, it has worked fine for about 6 years. It’s been in for 7 years but 2020 doesn’t count as the site was closed.

Tenants destroyed the Bosch in our rental in 6 years. and these weren't meth heads or anything, a college professor and a psychiatrist, 2 kids, which I guess might even be worse than meth heads. Anyway, based on a sample size of 1, I'm steering clear of Bosch in the future.

Definitely would never recommend a Bosch for a rental.

You do have to be careful of what you do put in a dishwasher though. Some simple things can ruin or clog up your dishwasher by getting past the simple strainer. Had a friend who repairs dishwashers who came by when mine was not draining properly. Turns out my wife was washing new dishware that had stickers on them that eventually plugged it up. On top of other items that dont belong in the dishwasher.  :smt013 :smt001

hey ..no commnet ..but i do know what you mean ..LOL

Having spent 10 years in college, I have to say that most professors are pretty cool, but I did some work for a psychiatric group, and maybe it's unfair to generalize about people based on the ones I dealt with, but they were an odd group. Maybe unfair to generalize based on one Bosch too, but that's how the mind works.

Kenmore is a reliable brand. The secret is to find a one that is made by whirlpool. Some are made by Frigidaire that were hit and miss.  A good salesman will know the difference.

Yeah, a Kenmore is what our property manager recommended for the replacement. It was about $50 more than the quote to fix the Bosch as I recall. So far, so good.

We put in an Asko dishwasher during our recent kitchen remodel. While not a familiar brand and not inexpensive either, so far it has been great.  We used Viking appliances for the rest of the kitchen but our contractor highly recommended the Asko dishwasher. I think t was about $1300.  It's very quiet and everything, including plastic items come out completely dry.

I don't like recommending things because of the YMMV thing. So I'll relate my experience. 6 yrs ago I did my kitchen and selected the Frigidaire FGID2466QF. Now I'm single and live alone and probably only ran it 1-2 times a week but after 6 yrs it ran like the day I got it. Dishes always clean and spot free when the spot preventer dispenser was full instead of it's usually empty state. Quietest DW I've ever had, it even mentions it in the Use and Care inst. about not worrying that's it actually running. But it does have an all plastic interior.  I just moved to a new fixer upper and the first thing I did was buy the same DW again, happy that after 6 yrs it was still available. More settings than I'll ever use but it definitely has a sanitize feature. With my procrastinating nature I actually installed it yesterday (bought around Thanksgiving).

I am not sure what brand i purchased way back when but it was a portable dishwasher. When i was a single young man. Great for limited space and no space to install under cabinet. Would just wheel it up to the sink, attach to faucet and away you go. Also served as an additional working area for the kitchen.
