I use a hard-sided cooler which is big enough for all but the biggest butts. A bunch of frozen water bottles saves money on ice. Bleed, gut, and immediately get your fish on ice---it makes a huge difference for any type of fish.

And here's something you might want consider... If your CA halibut tends to dry out when cooking, try leaving the skin on. I started doing this last year just out of laziness, and it made a big difference.
There's always money in the banana stand.

I an in Laytonville and fish a lot in shelter cove .it is definitely not a good idea to keep fish on a clip in the water. Sharks everywhere. I use a cooler on the back deck of my hobie pa 14. We had numerous sightings and a kayak attack last year

Two attacks at Shelter Cove, but who's counting?

Me. This guy is counting. That was scary  :smt002

Oh and I use a few different fish bags, but if I’m live bait fishing and the tankwell is taken up by my livewell I use a towel because I do t have any burlap.

I was glad that 14 footer that swam right between us didn't want to make contact - it looked athletic!

I keep my fish in the tankwell behind me with wet burlap over them - Gary's cooler works great if you have that much room.
Brah!  That's epic sunburn on your hand but a good scream let's out all the pain!  Might wanna get that checked out. :smt002 :smt006

I got a fancy brand catch bag, and sent it back because I’m a minimalist who hates more things to carry, clean, store, etc.
The burlap sac works great. It packs very compact and I keep it inside the kayak, so it’s not in the way, and I take it out only if I catch fish. We do long days Salmon fishing and it works great. In my car I have a huge  drybag (120L) with ice (protected by a thermal bag). I put the fish with the sac in there. Works amazing. The dry bag stores very compact, super easy to clean, no leaks.
One trick for the burlap sac: I customized one corner in the bottom so that it has an opening for my stringer. This way, the stringer holds both fish and bag, and I can use one hand to dip both in water, and not worry about losing the bag.
Luck favors the prepared

Li-orca that's a great idea.. I will have to do that. I was out at ARW this weekend and two kayaks had their catch attacked by a furbag... one lost is fish (claimed to be 44") and the other lost the belly of his fish..... either way, I don't want to fall victim.
