By not taking the vaccine I'll have the same risk factor of 1 in 20 that have taken the Pfizer of Moderna vaccine or roughly 1 in 3 of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

Basic math:  Using the media's numbers, if the vaccine is 95% effective that means 5% might still could get covid.  Five is one twentieth of one hundred.

You have fundamentally misunderstood what 95% efficacy means. It means it reduces your chance of getting sick by 95% from whatever it would have been if you had not gotten the vaccine. So yes if your chance of catching Covid was 100% then there is still a 1 in 20 chance you will catch it. But without the vaccine you would’ve had a 20 out of 20 chance of getting sick under that scenario.

Another fact to consider:  SARS-CoV-2 has become endemic.  All of us have 2 choices: vaccine, or disease.  I chose to get the vaccine, and will continue to do so every year or two (depending on the protection study outcomes), probably for the rest of my life or until we find a better way.  Sure, maybe you wont have complications the first time you get Covid, maybe not the second, but the more times you become infected over the course of your life, the greater chance of complications.  No spank you!

I had wifey stick me with the J&J vaccine the Saturday before Easter. That night I had just a tad bit of chills. I went to sleep at 11PM and didn't wake up until 11AM Sunday morning. I was still pretty groggy when I woke up. I felt hungry but it was all I could do to choke down a few bites of cereal.

At 1:30 I went to my parents' for Sunday brunch where there was an amazing spread of BBQ ribs, fixin's, and crazy desserts. I just sat on the couch half-asleep and could only manage to eat a few strawberries. After that I came home and just sat on the couch feeling pretty crummy.

Next day I was fine.

My hope is that they start doing covid and flu together, if possible.  It'd be awesome to get stuck with both at the same time at my place of employment.  But, I'm not sure the science on doubling up with others is there yet.

Small price to pay!

Similar here.  Slight fever added on to the sore arm and mild headache.  I had them go for the non-dominant arm this time and that seems to have reduced soreness; probably from less use.

With that type of mindset, it just opens up another opportunity for others to be vaccinated. I have no idea how one can use the efficacy rate of a vaccine and turn it around to their advantage.

I wanted to wait a little bit to see if there were any near term side effects... still no guarantee of long term issues, but at least it will allow me to get to a place of what use to be normal. The main issue would be the lessening of guilt if I happened to infect a loved one. Wife and I will get ours tomorrow and be able to go out and about -- still with masks but at least we won't have to double mask or avoid certain places based on the density (GO LAL).

I had my second shot of Moderna about a month ago. The first was a walk in the park. With the second, I had a sore arm and woke the next day feeling sleepy and a bit out of it. Of course that could be due to the Scotchy-Scotch I had the night before to help with the sore arm.

First Pfizer in March, no issues. Second shot last night. Some arm soreness, maybe a little tired but grateful to be rejoining society. My best fishing bud has banned me from his bass boat for a year because he takes care of his immune-depressed mother. Meeting him at Oroville next week!

about 30 hrs after my 2nd moderna shot, I came down with a 100 degree fever, chills and headache last night.  lasted through the night and fever has reduced to 99.5 this morning.  headache is gone.  I've never been so excited to have a fever and headache before.

24HRS post 1st Moderna jab, soreness at injection site, really more sore than I expected but tolerable and already fading today.
yesterday afternoon felt a little odd, but could just have been post adrenaline dump from looking around at the vaxx site and feeling like I was actually IN a virus disaster film.
6 weeks to go....

Just got the 1st Pfizer shot. Arm is sore, wrist feels a little numb and sore neck. Hope that's going to be the worst part of it and I'm ready to book guiding trips <- kidding about that part but the DFG officer who once asked wasn't

I had a super sore neck for 4-5 days on my 2nd Pfizer, forgot to mention that.  I initially assumed it was due to sleeping weirdly but confirmed my lymphs were pretty swollen, even without a fever.
I'd rather be swinging...

12 hours post 2nd Pfizer, fever and chills and my arm sore as hell. That lasted for 6 hours...now feeling better, but still achy all over and slight fever.

At least now I know that's all just my body winding up its immune system.

Second Pfizer yesterday (YAY!!!)
Felt a little tired an hour later but that could be attributed to more than just getting the shot.
Twelve hours after the I shot experienced the dreaded sore arm.
The pain was only localized, like someone punched me with their middle knuckle.
It only hurt when I pressed against it.
Did not prevent me from working around the house.
This morning the pain is much less but I still feel it when I press against it.
Long long road to get to this point. Glad I finally got here.
