Not sure if I want to schlepp more gear at this point, but it seems like waterproof binoculars would be handy out on the water.

Does anyone have a pair they can recommend?  Or am I just asking to make myself seasick even moreso than usual?

Did some reading on the subject and a 6x monocular seems just the ticket.  Found the Brunton 6x30 waterproof model for $120, a little pricey, but supposedly they are the shiznet.

Keep your eyes on Big 5. They aleways have some kind of binos on sale. I got waterproof ones for less than $20. They were reg $100.
I have a really good pair too but they are pretty big and not something I would want to haul on the yak.
That said I have a hard time using binos on a kayak. With just a tiny bit of water movement I cannot keep focused on a target long enough for them to do me any good.
They do come in handy for scoping out the water from shore, but trying to scope out anything from my kayak for me is just not worth the effort.

John,

There are some good marine Binoc....and it could save your day.  If you can see birds working at 500 yards or a boat catching fish and you have nothing.  It might help you.  You just have to get Marine Optics and not the reg. land or sports use.  They compensate for the wave action.

Ken, in a power/sail boat, I would say yes. I would leave them at home for kayak use. just me tho.

John,

What you can not paddle 500 yrds?  I hate to bring this up, but on the Long Range Boats they look for one single bird diving in the water.....Why, because these birds do this thing for a living.   Usually, called a Albatos.
That why they have a crow's nest on the tower.  Its funny that the Long Range Boats have a million dollars worth of eletronics and rely on human eyesight or binoc to see a single bird.

John, maybe, you have never seen a boil that is like 1/4 mile long and wide.  Let's goes Albies...because the Steven Creek and Lextington trout have you under a spell.  Oh, I forgot for to talk about the rockcods and lings.

I use Pentax DCF 8x32 WP glass on my kayak, though not while fishing down here. They can take the salt, just give them a freshwater dunk when you get home. That particular size is a compromise between size/weight vs capability.

Scott
