The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

Well now, I had to go and read that didn’t I. Thought about running two shark shields, battery time is out at 4.5 hours and my sessions can go 7 for sure...still rare it seems and my limbs are usually in the kayak..

I concur... 2-SSs is the way to go 👍.  Those that fish Santa Cruz will probably have some sightings this Summer...
We're gonna need a bigger boat!

Took a beach hike last week and saw three Elephant Seals. One big male in the surf,( so awesome to see) one juvenile tucked away in a dune (sleepy lil' guy), and one adult with it's head missing. Def a white shark hit on the last one.

Why are people worried when they are in kayaks?  I've never understood that, like is there an inherent fear the shark will somehow capsize, and then attack the struggling person?

Now freediving with sub 10ft visibility, dead fishes on the keeper?  I get worried, for sure.  Especially around Jenner.  Definitely investing in a sharkshield.

I'm predicting some higher-than-normal deaths if they open ab season.  People who haven't been in the water for years, and higher shark counts.
I'd rather be swinging...

There be some freaky teeth/mouth man.. severed arteries gushing your life force away! Strapping on a excruciatin tourniquet without having to be peg leg joe in/on the water.

That said, if they open abalone... it's so worth it. Death and decapitation ain't nothin

Other day... crab grabbed and started pulling on my finger and drew blood. I was screaming like a little girl for it to let go. If it was a shark would probably be 1000x better/rad  :smt044

After the crab let go... I was soo happy. Looked at my poor bleeding throbbing finger and had to shake it off and dip my hand in the cooling sea... but then what if a shark then decided to take a bite as well.. so i quickly pulled my hand back out. Wouldn't want one of those stellar moments..

I had a exciting encounter with about a 15 foot GWS right in front of Lovers point about 7 or 8 yrs ago. Was in about 60 foot of water and he cruised about 3 foot under my 14 foot klamath aluminum. Strange how i remember not hearing anything during the encounter and just focusing on him cruising under us. My Dad was about 72 yrs young then and decided it was time for us to go in for the day.  :smt005

That incident is still fresh in my head. I can intelectualize the incident by recognizing it was most likely a juvenile; however, that does not help stop the other side of the equation from getting into my head. I still wonder why he did not sample me as he did my yak. Oddly enough, I can honestly say I was more wondering than scared if I was going home (and I do not mean back to where I eat and sleep).  :smt001

... when they do bite somebody, it's almost never a sustained attack. It's a one-time bite, and then they leave.

Well, that's reassuring. Sort of. Or not really...

... the shark only took one leg, so it's really not a big deal.  I kept fishing ...
