I bought one.  My shop offered to put it in for me for VERY little money.  He even threw in the Plano box rack thing. He had one laying around a customer didn’t want. Score!  Free.

I got it home and checked his install; I noted one corner of the gasket was pushed up.  Oh-o.  I stared at it. I even sprayed water on it to confirm it leaked.   I pulled it off and noticed the issue. The cut hole in the kayak was a tight fit. Simply screwing down the frame would gush out the gasket when it pressed up against the kayak opening. . I wrapped gaffers tape around the rim protecting the gasket “tails”. No go.

I had to take a utility knife and trim the hole out in the offending areas.   It’s fixed now, but I swear I had to take that thing on and off like a crazy person. I chased tight spots all around. If I did it myself, I think I would run an electric sander around the perimeter to smooth out the edges.  Remove the toothyness that grabbed that gasket would mitigate the issue.  Hope this helps someone about to tackle the project.  I don’t even know where my jigsaw is!

Does anyone think I need to put the tiniest bead of silicon sealant around the outer rim?  (On the rectangular and round hole I had moved forward). Clear silicon might be cheap insurance and will be invisible.
