I just bought two used kayaks (Ocean Kayak Malbu 2 and Scrambler 11) for the family to kayak at Tahoe Monterey Bay. I always wanted to fish the Bay so am going to give it a try. I went to Gus' Discount Fishing Tackle near me in San Francisco and got some good information on gear I needed and where to kayak fish. I'm excited to find this forum and you can expect me to be weighing in on how to do things yourself. I already have done a barebones anchor trolley, a garbage bag drift sock, and rocks for sinkers. Until my fishing license starts Jan 1st, I've been practicing launching from docks and beaches in various locations around San Francisco, anchoring, using a drift sock, dealing with waves and currents, and dressing for the weather and immersion possibility. For currents, I've found the Bay Area Sea Kayakers Trip Planner on their web site to be essential for keeping me from having to paddle for my life just to get back to the launch site. Paddling a mile against a 2 1/2 knot current is an experience I don't need to repeat (hanging near the shore where current was much less helped a lot). Hopefully, after I figure out kayak fishing I'll get my kids out there with me.

You won't be disappointed fishing Monterey Bay! With a little advice here you should do quite well. I've (knock on wood) never come back empty handed.
