We would use these storm drains as our private tunnels to get around.  Because of the echo, when someone's parent called a friend would shout down the storm drain and we could hear and come back without getting caught.

LOL ... same in Fort Worth, Tx.  :smt005

Where is the best place to get traps? I've seen youtube videos of guys using the cylindrical traps made of the fine metal mesh. I've always caught them by hand but love the idea of a trap doing it for me while I get to fish

there are so many crayfish at this troutlake we backpack up to.  you stand in the water casting for trout, and they come and pick at your toes!!

first trout, the head goes in the cylindrical trap and it is game on.  we catch them by the bucket full.  my friend is a very strong backpacker, so he brings a roasting pan that he fills with water and we have crayfish boil on the fire.  it is delicious.  you eat so many you feel mentally sick.

Mel ones has tons of crawdads.  Wife and I go to Donner Lake couple time a year.  Get a lot in Donner Creek.  Overnight soak.  I have both a large Promar collapsible trap that lays flat and a couple of Promar box shape traps that collapsed are about 12x12x1”.  They seem to,work better.  Bait with cheap cans of cat food.  Just take a screw driver and poke a few holes in the top of the can.  Or cheap tuna in oil cans.
This is the one that does not seem to work as well.
