Yeah I do think this forum is too sensitive for some eh CQ? i mean you got so butt hurt by a simple WTF that you came back on to complain about how EVERYONE is so sensitive....hmm seems your the only one with your panties in a bunch.

Yeah and when folks don't actually read your message it does get SO frustrating!!
IE My actual response to your message

Your response going into gun rights and making a claim about guns/god was just a weird non sequitur. Thus the WTF in reference to the rabbit hole your are going down re gun rights.

Yeah totally understood the message....'be careful not to be involved with an assault as the repercussions can be substantial' ....a fair point!
...to which I read/comprehended/responded!!!

I am a mature adult who can handle myself and have no desire for a physical altercation, etc. SO what is the big problem? Just CHILAX

It's ok we can still be friends.

Galvanic timed releases are an interesting idea.  Anyone know how accurate they are for the 24h?  I would assume they have it pretty well figured out...

Where I crab, I feel like most of the poaching happens from right before sunset to just after sunrise.  Having the buoy hidden until the next day (or 2-3 days) sounds good to me.

Full defensive posture, strong verbiage, then a white flag?  I read many come to his support that I respect on this forum.  I understand that you can resolve stuff relationally, which is a great skill, with hope of accountability, without violence, also with boundaries protecting yourself from harm by knowing when not to confront.  I think the final conclusion was, take the loss of poached pots, with a flame of justice and different personalities chiming through.  Chillaxing over an increasing unfortunate crime, when there is so much prep and work involved when crabbing, is hardly a solution.  Basically we want justice, solutions, or what?  You can fill in the blank and get back on topic if you choose...hope we can also be friends as well...you very well could be a friendly guy.  See ya' on da wattah... :smt006

Some years back i recall reading about a dfg or coast guard sting where they put out traps containing dye marked crabs. Back at the harbor they checked catches with a uv light and nsbbed some folks. Mighta been hmb or sc.

I hope they weren't busting folks for ones and twos but instead for limits and overlimits of dye marked crabs.  Crabs can and do escape from traps when the doors are opened by other crab.  Would suck to have to fight a ticket if you brought in a single marked crab and had only pulled your own pot.

One or two wouldn't make for a good case.  A reasonable and prudent person on a jury would expect the poacher to have all of the crab from the bait trap (man, that doesn't translate well, but the trap with the dyed crab baiting the poacher) or a large fraction thereof.  There's a gap in chain of custody of the evidence there, too, since they're being dropped to the bottom.  I'd expect there either to be constant eyes on the bait traps (from high points on shore) so they had eyes on the folks poaching.  That way, the dyed crabs are just supporting evidence and not the backbone of the case.

Current LEOs on the forums should correct me if I'm wrong... it's been over a decade since I was LEO.

Ordered them from Neptune marine supply up in Washington state. $1.40 each but you gotta buy at least 50 at a time.

Regarding those timed release devices...how would you set your trap besides putting it overboard and letting it drop to the bottom really fast ?...and risking the pot ending up sideways/upside-down, due to it falling really fast through the water column ?

As you can see from the diagram, the line and buoy would act as a stabilizer (think drogue chute) as it fell, creating enough drag to maintain the proper deployment.  That's the theory anyway.

I was thinking about this. You also have to keep your 100 feet of line from tangling  on anything down there, the pot itself,  and getting knotted or hung up on the way up.

Plus your pot has to be heavy enough to sink your buoy so you either have to use a very heavy pot, not very kayak friendly, or a very small buoy which may be hard to find in less than ideal conditions. I'm curious to see what Kayakjack has to say after he tries this out.
