Because dungies is going to be scrapped this weekend,  I decided to postpone my dungie and fish pursuit at halfmoon bay til Tuesday.

According to Windy.com, Tides4Fishing.com, and Surf-forecast.com, the winds will be light all day along with low swell and small tides.  Wednesday and Thursday appears to get worse. Will check again on Monday night to be sure.

I'm a newbie and never yakked at halfmoon bay.  Have yakfished at Rockaway beach, the ARW, and delta once.  Is there a specific area to launch from?

I plan to be there between 6-7am. Holler if you'd like to meet up. TIA!

The two most popular launch sites are HMB Kayak Co and the old pier.

If launching at HMB Kayak Co, you can park in Lot C (directly behind HMB Kayak Co across Pillar Point Harbor Blvd.) or in the lot behind Princeton Seafood Company.  You can temporarily park along the yellow curb in the permit only lot next to HMB Kayak Co to unload.  When you return, the HMB Kayak Co folks are usually okay with you using their garden hose to rinse stuff off.

If launching at the old pier at the end of West Point Ave, then there is limited parking (probably room for 6 cars).  However, it's a shorter paddle to "The Jaws" (the harbor entrance/exit) from here than HMB Kayak Co.

And they are usually ok when you gift them a crab or 2 in return for the favor.  A number of us have been doing that on occasion for a while now, which helps to maintain those good relations!

I have been planning to try crabbing from HMB/Pillar Point.  Anyone willing to give me some tips on where to drop rings outside the harbor?  Thanks.

i'll be pulling a string in the morning if it hasnt already been pulled by someone else. will let you know how it goes!  Just a little tidbit, but someone dropped like 4 cages right on the east side of th jaws as you exit, not full out of the harbor yet.  The boats coming in today were all over the place trying to avoid them, so be careful coming around the bend!

I was there today as well. Left with a rock crab and pulled up tons of tiny dungies :/. Thankfully a boater came by and blessed me with 2 to take home :)

Got out to the water later today. No love from any fish today. Caught two 4" rock crabs and a 3" dungie in a couple hours of soaking crab pots. All thrown back. I turned in early due to winds and waves picking up. It was still a nice day to be out in the water.

I saw that. Was wondering about the etiquette there. Didn’t seem to make sense to drop pots at a traffic choke point.

Worst case, somebody could get a prop tangled/disabled and drift into possibly fatal danger.

Don't be that guy.

Don't do it.

Over the years, there has been some complaints from the boating crowd, specifically blaming kayak anglers for incidents like this.  It just makes us all look bad.
