Yeah, it's looking like a no-launch day for me so far.  🤞it improves.  Sunday isn't looking much better, either.

Tides look great but swell is big.  Sounds like a lot of yard sales going to happen.  Be careful if you’re going out and coming back in.

And the wind looks unfavorable.  Swell + wind == no go for me.  The season is long enough to skip opening weekend.

I'm not sure if Doran is still limiting day use capacity due to Covid, but even in a normal year, the day use areas(especially the one close to the jetty) fill up pretty early. Maybe the forecasted wind will keep some away, but it err on the early side.

I remember an occasion two years ago, my buddy and I got to Doran at 5am.  Easily 15+mph winds even though the tide was great.  There were two other guys unloading their paddle canoe (yes you read that right).  We looked at each other and said nope.  Coffee and breakfast it is.

The next day, we read a report of two guys stuck on Bodega Head Rock and lost their canoe.  Got saved by a chopper and both were near frozen.

I'd rather deal with the swell and wind than 99Ranch's parking lot. :)

I'm planning to throw snares from the beach with the kiddos.  They have the good ones at the HMB tackle shop with the tight loops.

Gonna pass on the opener with the weather reports...  Plenty of crabs and season left for a safer day OTW.  :smt004
We're gonna need a bigger boat!

Glad I saw this thread- I'm still new enough that I was looking at the reports and scratching my head. "I think I read on NCKA that over 10mph is risking it..."

Damn, 2020 even took my first crab opener, will this year ever stop? :smt009

Bodega is showing 10.5' WNW swell @ 13sec and 20mph winds.

That is a 100% no-go for me.

Quote from Lawson's about Tomales on the opener:

"So far Windy.com is calling for winds gusting to 40 knots and 12 foot seas on Saturday. This could change, of course, but at this time conditions look to be somewhere between subpar and fatal. Probably closer to the latter. And that's just inside the bay."

There're 5 more days til the opening and weather could change by then plus I always read the weather forecast with a grain of salt.

this really bums me out  :smt013, I was looking forward to my first time out on my kayak.  After seeing the forecast and speaking with another member, best choice is to post pone.  I'll be out on the jetty with the kiddo tossing snares.
