I was thinking more along the lines of DIY with a total cost of about $0.85...

Ha yeah me too, I wouldn't spend that much on a lure setup. Just a link I saved a while ago to use as inspiration for something DIY someday.

I made one on an Alabama rig, not a bad spreader,,,5 wires, 3 hootchies per line, the one in the center has a trailer and place 3 hooks wherever you want...

I use this rig:

Mainline to three way swivel, dropper loop of 20# mono going to weight. off of swivel, 18" 80# Jinkai to a Yamashita UV hoochie with 3 beads and a 4/0 Owner 5315-141 snelled.  From the tag of the snell, another 10 inches to a dodger of your choice, and then another 12" to a hoochie, 1 bead, a snelled 5315, and a stinger 1/0 Owner ST-36BC.

3 hooks, 1 rod 2 hoochies.  I bait the back hoochie and get most fish on it, but they bite the front one too.

I understand some of those words.

Here are pics of the components. I like the Jinkai Mono but any brand works fine.

Wiggle hootchies have worked super well for me

Thanks for the tip--I'm going to give it a try. Do you use a dodger with them, or solo?

Best of all, it looks pretty easy to make your own...

Thanks! I read your description through a couple of times and I think I get it. I'll try tying up one of those before I forget, and give it a shot next season. I recall you posted up some nice butts this season so I'm sure it will be worth the effort. What do you use to bait the back hoochie?

Depends on water quality whether i use a flasher or not. If I do it is a small one, sometimes an incline triangle flasher.

Herring or anchovy, but i like herrings as theyre more durable. Dont be afraid to use a big 6 or 7"er
