Setting up for the 20/21 crab season. Here is my understanding of the regulations.

I'm not sure but I think I read that we have to have a 3x5 inch red trailer float 3 feet or less attached to the 11 inch red and white Float. Is this true?

Hoop 4.25 inch escape for small crab

Rotten cotton 120 single knot, 5 inch escape min opening after cotton destroyed

Full disclosure that I'm new to this, but according to the CDFW page the float does not need to be any particular color or style, it just needs to have your GO ID on it (legibly).

All the rest seems to be accurate.

Use weighted rope if possible. If not, use a small weight to submerge your line at least 10 feet below your buoy.

This keeps line from floating on top and being run over by boaters.

Other useful regs (please correct me if I’m wrong):
Dungeness : limit 10, size at least 5 3/4”
All others: limit 35, size at least 4”
Traps deployed no earlier than a week before the opener.

In the past years, we cannot deploy traps before midnight on the opener.  Was it change this year?

I read it as you can not deploy or fish them for the 7 days leading up to the opener.

“Crab traps must not be deployed or fished seven days prior to the opening of the Dungeness crab season (Oct. 30 – Nov. 6, 2020).”  -cut and pasted from the dfg page.

If you are or anyone is going to HMB on the opener. Please make sure no one drops pots in the Jaw or in front of it. This is PB heavy traffic and the last thing anybody wants is ropes on the propeller. If you can use lead ropes or put weight on your rope to prevent it from floating.

I'll add the area between the green and red cans, too.  That is a navigation channel and dropping pots there would not only be in bad form, but would also be illegal.

This can't be stressed enough!! Rope in a prop of a PB could become a deadly situation for crew on the boat.

I read earlier in the year that the addition of a trailer buoy was a proposed change that would be considered in January - I can't find where I saw that, but I didn't see anything in the regs about this being adopted. Anyone else?
