I'm looking to setup a garmin striker 4cv for my kayak. The front of the kayak has two storage compartments that look like they're setup for some sort of battery and wiring. However, the case that fits the 12v battery does not fit in that compartment but the battery by itself does. Would it be bad to put the battery in the compartment by itself? I would velcro it down so it wouldn't slide around in the compartment. Or should I just make a box that fits the battery and fits in the compartment as well?

Thanks!

I highly recommend Chet's battery.  It's not only a better battery than the lead acid batteries that are more popular, it comes in a nice waterproof case with a built-in loop that you can use to tie off once in the hatch.

give it a go! keep the connectors / leads coated with dielectric grease or equivalent.

Ok. Thanks. I will for sure check it out.

I don't use a box for my battery. I just covered the connections to the battery with silicone caulking and use a waterproof connector to connect to the FF and charger. I also used a waterproof fuse holder.

I have been using a ziploc bag and a compressible insulated lunch box.

+1 for Chet’s battery I just installed a hook 7 reveal and had trouble fusing the wires Chet helped me and his battery is working well.

I use the sane FF. I paired it with a 10 amp hour Nocqua battery. It comes  in a Velcro case. I run the case lid around a ziplock holding my foam supports together and press the Velcro together. No movement.  The battery itself seems waterproof.   I’m gonna put a round hole storage hole in the front and move the battery there.

Ok thanks. I'll check that out as well!
