Just got my brand spankin new hobie with the drive. What do you guys do as far as maintenance on the drive? I just watched a youtube video of how to completely take it apart and clean which is very interesting. I fish 30-40 trips a year and a lot of saltwater. I'm thinking to maybe take apart at the end of each season and re-grease everything. Anyone spray it down with WD-40 every trip to avoid corrosion? Let me know what you guys do. Thanks

For more than 10 years, I have been spraying my drives down with WD-40 after a thorough rinse.  I have actually had three mirage drives during that time.  All have worked flawlessly and without a breakdown.

Freshwater rinse. Shake dry. Wd40.

Inspect cables for tension And fraying. Make sure lock nuts haven’t backed off (it’s fairly common).

Not a bad idea to do a breakdown with a full check and grease once a year if you are using it a lot.

Rinse after each use, glance at cables and nuts before each use.

If it’s a GT drive, I’d recommend swapping the delrin bearings for nylon. Then no grit-trapping grease is needed, and you’ll eliminate any squeaks that you might have. I don’t have a 180 drive, so no specific comments on that version.

Prolly a good idea to take everything apart and inspect annually, but I have not done so for a while.
I don't like stuff that sucks.
