These look like hakas..  :smt006

Those aluminum spine boards would probably work. It says they weigh 12 lbs, which is the same as the benches I've got.

Lately, I've been looking at some surfboard building videos, and it seems like that might be the way to go for a DIY solution...

I'm not sure what you envision as "fully composite", but I'd think a foam core would be the way to go for strength and rigidity. Anyways, once I finish my AI2 project, I think this will be next on the agenda...

I'm not sure what you envision as "fully composite", but I'd think a foam core would be the way to go for strength and rigidity. Anyways, once I finish my AI2 project, I think this will be next on the agenda...

not having any wooden stringers like a surfboard.  you would need either a very heavy layup schedule, dense core, or some stringers to make a eps foam-cored haka work unless you make it like 4 inches thick to give it stiffness back.
