There are thousands of marketing execs trying to separate you from your money. 

Most of the "best X vs. Y" is bullshit.  Get something that is made for the task and you can afford.  And even if it is not made for the task, it'll probably work just fine. 

As an example - I have a $1000 Orvis fly rod, and a $50 fly rod (well, I have about a dozen fly rods).  Yes, the Orvis is great, but the $50 rod works pretty well. 

You are dragging a dead fish behind a boat.  We tend to overthink many things.

I have a Trevala M. I wish I had purchased the ML. Your probably okay with either. I have used the M with 1 pound balls at the Faralons but its more than u need for halibut in the bay. I tend not to use the rod. It seems most people on this board get thr ML.
