It's a great way to stay warm... from the inside!

There is a picture of a kayaker (AI with a motor) who got tangled up with a commercial troller while they were fighting a fish.   Pretty scary stuff.  A whaler also tangled with a commercial boat.

I think it highlights the safety precautions needed in the presence of these commercial boats and brought up quite a lot of interesting reading for me regarding how they operate.

Not sure if this was even avoidable in how dense the fog was (besides not going out) but if you see big lights and a commercial boat, get out of the way.   It's like a train, it's not stopping.  With floats out they move straight and can't sharply turn.

I believe these commercial boats need to have AIS turned on so you could look up to see if they are in the area before launching or even while out on the water.

Also your iPhone can be used as a GPS device you need to download the maps before hand if you don't have service.  2 devices is best, I always have fish finder with GPS and my iPhone with full charge.

I'm sure most of us with a straight head agree with you, but if you've seen the various responses from the know it all newbies on here, FB and IG, you'll realize that this preaching only works for those that want to hear it and most of the ones hearing it, are already practicing it.  Unfortunately, the rest that think they know it all, mostly people that haven't experienced any major issues in their 1 season of kayak fishing, will eventually find out why you don't mess around in the ocean.

+1
and perhaps when the sh*t hits the fan, they will sell their stuff on craigslist (or post it here after they introduce themselves and respond to the first ten threads they see)
