video cam/mounting/general info

I'm thinking of adding a video camera to my equipment list.  I know nothing about them.  I've seen cameras that appear to be mounted to ones hat or chest as well as a pole behind my seat.  What brand do you guys use and how do you mount em?  Thanks for any info.
