My rod broke about 5 inches from the end.  Any idea if this is fixable?  I have the broken part and the broken part and the main shaft are reasonably "clean"  :smt044
Surf in safely, jump out and the yak turned and flipped last minute, should've held on to it, but I was thinking it's so mild, just let it ride  :smt013

Fiberglass garden stake, goop, fiber fix and some sort of wrap/gorilla tape. Had a similar break on a sentimental rod I have. Repair still  going strong for several years now.

Cut back add a buttstock, new “current length minus 5in. Rod” ...or warranty happens. Who knows...

Thank you all!  Gonna try a wooden dowel or the garden stake advice, whichever I can find first.  Thanks!

Curious as to the break... was the rod in a flush mount rod holder?

I have repaired a surf rod with simple fiberglass wrap from ace hardware that has held strong.  The bottom portion of the rod was crushed(stepped on while on some rocks?) for a significant length of the butt end and made the rod uncastable for 6-8oz weights.  The fiberglass cured rigid and saved my 15+yr old rod.

I did something similar before where I extended my surf rod handle using aluminum tubing....the kind you get at Home depot. Just make sure the outer diameter of the tubing can fit inside your broken rod and use epoxy to glue it in. You can buffer it up with some masking tape if you need to. Still works great after several years of use.

Wooden dowel and epoxy.
I have extended the butts of several of my favorite jigging rods by cutting off the end, gluing a wooden dowel into the hollow end of the butt, gluing some radiator hose on top of the dowel, and gluing some pvc pipe on top of the radiator hose. Each layer fits tightly on top of the layer beneath it.  The butt extension is rock solid and works great.

Yes, the rod was in the built in rod holder then the kayak flipped.  Broke exactly the depth of the rod holer, just snapped.  Next time I will let the rods sits unsecured in the back, they have pool noodles and they can coast to the beach or I can swim and get them.
