Launching from Doran isn’t much further. Easier launch than dealing with the folks at Lawsons, too. And a south wind will push you right back.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Thanks Andrew, I am thinking to hit bird rock. looks like 6+ miles from Doran, but could be half of that from Lawson?

Yep, 3.4 miles from Lawson's and 6 miles from Doran. You have more current to deal with at Lawson's, but with a motor I guess it's not a problem.

Doran is the safer and easier launch.

Lawsons, be wary going out of the mouth.  There's a big sandbar on the east side, on certain tides, that break could take down smaller boats.  Go towards the western shore and exit out of the bay mouth.

True, yeah, we will try it tomorrow.

Yeah, that is my plan, take it all the way to west. Thanks!

Damn. That's gangster.

Be sure to take Simply's advice about exiting and re-entering the mouth and be sure to let us know how it goes.

I haven’t tried it, but I support this adventure.  :smt006

You’ve already picked a day with almost no swell or wind, you have a companion that could tow you home if things go wrong, the ebb tide is relatively mild Saturday, and it sounds like you are aware of the hazards of the mouth of Tomales Bay.

(For those who don’t know, many people have died at the mouth of Tomales Bay.)

James - Yes, I have done that trip out of Tomales to Bird Rock and beyond a few times in my tandem traditional sea kayak.  Good advice from others, above.  Fog, traffic and distance were factors on my last trip out there.  Not a place for inexperienced mariners.  Have a great day!

Yeah but I agree. Sounds like you think thought out.
When I lived in Bodega, we're thinking about way to do it, but never happen (I only made it to close to the second Estero from Campbell Cove)...
Be safe & hope the treasure is worth the risk! :smt006

Geetum brah!  Wot?  You tired of catching fatties where you stay?  Mixing up the backdrop?  Make it epic! :smt006
