Hi, looking for a group wisdom.

I have Elite 5 CHIRP, which still works OK, but will probably die soon (I already had to remove SD card due to the infamous problem). Anyways, might be a time to prepare for upgrade, and I read that new software is better

Has anybody upgraded recently, any major improvements?

Also, I understand that Elite Ti/Elite Ti 2 with touchscreen is not the best idea for kayak (my Tandem Island can be a very wet ride) - is it so? Any major benefits to still consider it over Hook line?

Thanks,

I upgraded to Elite Ti 5 a year ago and enjoy it very much.  My old Hook 5 used get frozen and had to unplug the power several times during a fishing trip.  I use on our Oasis and Outback.
Ti is much more reliable and I enjoy the touch screen except when I am hoopnetting lobsters.

I have a question for this thread.  When upgrading, do you have to change the transducer or can you just plug the new unit into the existing power and data plugs?  Any advantage to changing the transducer also?  This would be if keeping in the Lowrance options and not switching to hummingbird or Garmin.  I have an Elite 5 CHIRP and am considering upgrading also...

From what I read Hook has different connector. There are adapters, but considered to be a "last resort" (have not researched why)

I did upgrade to 7ti now too.
I think Elite 5 CHIRP & Hook5 are really good unit, but I got a 2020 Outback, so wanted to check out the side-scan. I was worried about touch screen too before, but actually works pretty good even with little wet hands. The image is more detail than Hook5. I couldn't figure out the beeping on fish screen other day and annoyed that hecka out of me all day, but I was okay after I figured it out to turn the stupid thing off. It's a lot of functions that I still haven't figure out, but so far so good. I think I just need to get use too.

The transducer cable is different, so I think you have to get the connector (9 pin to 7).
