Depends on what kind of salmon fishing your doing, but a good all-around rod for salmon fishing as well as other species from rockfish, halibut to tuna is the Shakespeare
Ugly Stick Tiger rod .  A cheap 7-8ft fiberglass rod works well for soft biting salmon and mooching.  You should be able to find one for around $20-40

yes to the fiberglass blanks.  I use one of these in the downrigger version https://www.fishusa.com/Okuma-Classic-Pro-GLT-Trolling-Rods?quantity=1

Dirt cheap and is the exactly what I need for salmon.

I've been looking but can't find them anymore... :smt009

I've just got NC902MFB from amazon, for ~$50 looks pretty good!

P.S. Seems I've got a last one from that particular seller. They have it from a different seller, but that one seem to have bad feedback.

Ugly Stik website says the Ugly Stik Tiger will be available 8/30/20. Until then, good luck finding one.

Dick's has them.  I've never seen them as cheap as other folks have mentioned but usually 69.99.   7' Medium Light.

I use a Daiwa Saltwater VIP. It's similar to the North Coast but has a foam handle instead of cork. I use the 7ft 10-25lb model. The 8ft is better but I'm only 5'4" and I think my arm span isn't long enough to deal with an 8 footer on the kayak. Deadlifted an exhausted thresher shark this year that was dragging sand after a long battle and this rod didn't break!

Why does everyone love the ugly stik tiger so much? I always see folks using them. Is it just an affordable and generally reliable rod? Or is there a more specific reason why it's good?

Its Durable, Affordable, diverse, and has good action. I have 3 actually.  I use them for Rockfish, Hali trolling and bounding, Salmon trolling with balls. They're just really hard to beat for the $70 if you arent trying to buy a ton of different setups

Damn, everyone loves these things!  99.5% of the time, I use the Ugly Stik Tiger as well, seems to handle pretty much everything. Even did some surf fishing with it and didn't feel it came up that much shorter cast than my 10 foot big water rod, although I suck at long distance casting.

When I got it, I hadn't really seen any recommendations and didn't know it was so popular for jigging and rockfishing, but I have a bunch of their trout/bass rods and theyve been good so I decided to get the Tiger.
I'd rather be swinging...
