I have a place up in Trinity County and am gonna be there for a few weeks. I am wanting to hit the ocean from there. I can either go to Shelter Cove (4 hr drive) or Trinidad (2-21/2 hrs). I know where to launch and fish from Shelter Cove but have never fished Trinidad or Eureka.

Can anyone tell me where to launch from Trinidad? Is it worth it to try, or should I make the extra 2 hr drive to Shelter Cove?

Thanks in advance.

When you get down to the parking area it will be super obvious. It’s immediately East of the launcher.

Thanks!

Has been slow.  There was a good report today with decent black rockfish and a 34” lingcod by kayakers but it was a washing machine and there was some chum in the water.

We usually park in spot 1 on the beach if the tide is not going to come up too far, otherwise we park in spot 2 and hoof it down to the beach. Ramp to the beach is not Prius friendly and 4WD helps but not always necessary. You can park in the Seascape lot but sometimes they get pissy about it, especially weekends. Looks to be sporty winds by noon for the next week or so. Check this and several others for current info. http://magicseaweed.com/Moonstone-beach-Surf-Report/301/

Some of "us" can''t park on the beach because our low riders can't handle the rocks on the way down. (Said the guy with a Prius).  :smt005.  So I park up top and wheel my kayak down to the beach.  It's good exercise.  :smt003

Sounds like Big Lagoon would be a good spot.

So far, Tuesday 7/14 is looking like the calmest day. 2-3 ft with 2 mph winds.

I'm watching MSW for the forecast.

I could sure use some company since I've never fished the area and would rather not go alone.

If it's 2-3 ft with 2 mph winds next week, there will be lots of folks wanting to go out! Check on the LCKA FB page cause a lot of people post their plans there. https://www.facebook.com/groups/102737726472812/

If you're in the trinity area and want to fish lewiston/trinity lake, I've been doing pretty well there recently. Same goes for shasta/redding area. DM'd, looking to get my salt on too sometime soon

Many fishermen spend their lives chasing fish, only to realize that it was themselves that they were chasing.

The "Salty" in my handle refers to my attitude, not the waters I fish
