Can anyone recommend a good kayak cable lock for securing a kayak on top of a car roof rack?

I'm planning on leaving my kayak on top of my car overnight before going out in the early in the AM...mainly so I don't wake up the wife/kid from opening the garage door.

Thanks in advance!

KANULOCK

I've used my pair for three years now.  Lockable and they have steel cables inside to prevent cutting.

This works well, but a bit expensive in comparison to a cable lock through the scupper hole.  Does double as a tie down also.

I used a cheap combination bike cable lock for the last couple of years whenever I park my car in a motel parking lot.

If you have a Hobie, this fat chain will fit through the mirage well. It's what I use when I leave my TI on the car overnight.

Simple solution:  Take the wife and kid with you!

I think any of these will deter most from successfully getting the kayak off the roof.  Look at it this way, just because you spend more money on something doesn't mean they can't cut it.  Its either the thief is well prepared and has strong cutters of some sort, or he doesn't and he probably wouldn't get very far.  I'd like to think the average crackhead isn't very prepared.   :smt005

That being said, I use bike locks like the one recommended through the scupper hole + rack bars.

Same here- No issues yet but nobody has tried to cut them either.

Get a "flexible" bike chain.  Its easy to install and won't snap and scratch your vehicle.  I got mine at the Walmart bike section.

I used steel cable too.  No lock on it, I just use a clip to connect the cable and lock it in the car.

I use the Kanuelocks (sp?) -got them at SUP shop, also, a thick bike cable lock through the scuppers and around rack, and, in strange places, a car tow cable through the scuppers and back to the tow ring near the rear bumper of the car, with a lock.  I have no illusions that these can't be defeated, but it would take some work, and as a wise person told me, thieves don't want to work, that's why they're thieves.
