If I go salmon fishing and catch a limit of salmon early in the day and then decide to go rockfishing or halibut fishing after, do I have to be fishing with barbless hooks? So even if I have one salmon on the deck, does that now mean any hook I have in the water has to be barbless? Also what is that fine? Also, if I have one salmon on the boat, does that mean I can't even have barbed hooks on the boat? or just in the water?

Got to be Barbless after you've kept a salmon that is if you're a rule follower

Yes, the regulations are pretty clear. If you are fishing for salmon or have salmon on board you have to follow the salmon gear restrictions:
- Only one line, max two hooks, single point, must be barbless
- If you are using bait and you are not trolling, you must use circle hooks and they can only be a few inches apart if you are using two hooks (on this part of the coast)

Fortunately, rockfish and halibut are easy to catch on barbless gear. Having barbed hooks on board is fine.

And even if you are not targeting salmon, you might want to consider going barbless (and follow the other salmon-specific rules). For example, I often troll a dodger and hootchie bounce-ball rig for halibut, and I've caught salmon on that setup.

Totally agree. My brother and I have done well trolling the bottom with salmon gear and catching halibut. They rarely shake off and you can release them in the water without touching them and beating them up (which happens in all the videos I see!).
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Fish and game stopped us on the water yesterday. Pulled up behind us, had us reel in and inspected our hooks and fishing license. I made him check my boater ID card since I spent 3 hours taking that stupid test and he laughed and said it's the first one he has seen lol. He then gave us a tip that the salmon were holding to the bottom so we lowered our gear and I hooked into the first salmon of my life. 25lber. Way stoked

It's not AFTER you catch a salmon that you have to go barbless.

Salmon fishing is a true test of whether you're a sportsman or not, IMO.

Being an honorable sportsman is way more important than what you catch.

seems like a straight forward rules to follow however I find it funny some YT-ers don't go by it. I see on their video after catching salmon, they go after halibut with a treble hook  :smt044 lol If you going to discriminate yourself make sure you know the regulation before blasting it on YT lol just saying lol
