David here! Some of my fondest memories growing up was fishing with my dad off the jetties and piers of SoCal.  I gave him an ocean kayak prowler 13 as a gift several years back, and dreamed that we would paddle together, father and son, as adults. Unfortunately, he became too sick to ever use it (he’s better now).  Despite cherishing the gift, he had to let it go to make space in their garage, so I decided to drive the kayak back up here with me from LA. That’s when it all began.

Last May, I started halibut trolling in the berkeley flats, just me and my Maker, then later with friends. I was exhilarated by shakers until June. Eventually upgraded to a revo 11, and enjoyed the waters at timber cove, hmb, bolinas... the usual spots.  Due to a straightening hook, I came close to losing my final California halibut of the season in Pacifica (pb of 40+inches) right after landing my first king salmon which already made my day.  Even better though, a few weeks later in September, my wife and I would be blessed with the arrival of our second child which has put me out of commission in the most wonderful way until recent -first things first.

See you on the water!

What’s up, David? Welcome aboard.

I’m in the East Bay, too, and I’ve got the same (welcome) distraction from fishing in the form of an 18-month-old daughter. Counting the days until she’s old enough to fish with me!

Nice intro. That's a serious halibut...
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?
