Whoa...  it sure was fishy at Bean on Saturday.  Nice catches all!

Another stringer.... rockaway/Bill's short-day (he even beat me in, way before the big event) featuring chunky bright verms and a keeper ling

Hey Congrat's Adam on the nice first ling, I knew you'd get one this year.  All those quality fish make it almost seem worth it to try the bean sometime.

However, let's recap the last year at Bean Hallow... one shark attack, one coastguard rescue, and at least one newbie drifting off unable to get back to the launch.  You guys can keep you "been".

What an adventure it was. I think I launched around 6:45, with Pacifico and a few others. The wind was just right for a decent drift with a 3 or 4 oz lure. I got my first fish, a decent Copper (first one I've caught) at about 7:30, and followed it with a decent vermilion both about 17"-18". I ended up drifting south of the Hollow with a small group, and around 8:30 got what I initially thought was a snag on a rock, until the snag shook its head and lit out like a little 12 pound torpedo. A few runs later I get color and "it's a flatty!" I had both my big game bag and a gaff, and with so many choices I was himming and hawing and ended up mooching some netting assistance from Joel. First time in the net the fish decided to imitate a thresher and tail walked out of the net. Another long run later we get it netted and bonked, and into the hatch it goes.
I ended the day with another nice vermilion at 20". My little igloo cooler wasn't nearly big enough to hold the fish so I had to take off and missed the afternoon party, but the grilled halibut, ears of corn, and coleslaw I had at home were worth it!
It was a great trip out for me, and a pleasure to finally fish with Joel, Adam, Angel, Nate, and all the rest of you.

thanks to NCKA & CREW!!  I finally got me a LING!!
I made it to the spot@6:30 to find YAKS already on the beach?..and mooch not there yet?
Got stuff ready to go, one group had already gone. As I get my DRY-ICED Herring set-up rigged, I hear someone jokingly yell," LOOK AT THAT SHARK!!  WOW, IT'S SO BIG".....if he only KNEW what was instore a few hours later.

Drifted frozen bait around for MISSED hits(got one rockie) and heard of a fish getting caught on a WHITE SCAMPIE.....I got one of those and down it went to fool Mr.Ling, I thought it was a snag til the rock started to shake, got him to show color and netted it on the first try!
only 27.5" but a first for me!  I lasted over 5hrs this time and the damn shark had to ruin my hunt for a Cabby in the rocky area.

I thought I was gonna be on the FRONT PAGE this morning with my LING?!
Dam you Dan!!  your stealing all the limelight, thnks buddy!

pic 1-3 = Mooch w/fish on!,after teasing the curious follower of his hooked rockfish, he daggled it right in front of him after spitting it once, and IT TOOK IT AGAIN!! That was SAHWEET!!   props to ya' brudah!

Pics 4 - 5 my 27" Ling and 18" rocky

Pleasure seeing who I have met before and great meeting those I had not.
.....side note: next time you read Mooch is gonna bring the BBQ?  be sure to attend...he make great MAN DOGS!!  thanks for bringin the grill mooch and let's do this again, w/o DAN! :smt002

Thanks Brian, I wasn't so sure about getting one this year........now it's a CABBIE (like yours from HMB) in the cross-hairs.
It's an hour and a-half to BB or the bean for me.

I knew I was missing some good dogs while making my way home darn it :smt010!
I'll be sure to come with the proper size ice chest next time.

Adam-the white scampi has proven to be a reliable lure for me both for lings, and well, halis too! I'm glad it worked for you brah.

Though it would'a been nice not to have Dan steal our thunder (desperate measures IMHO :smt003) and distract everyone from our admiring our fishing prowess, it was a really great time. I'll be there for the next round when the wind & swell (and the media) quiet down. I think I'll have to work on my "nice shark no bitey" mojo beforehand though, my red kayak has enough scratches in it already.
