I think we’re solid on wintertime threads at the moment. But hey, how about a gun control thread anyway?

There is an obscene amount of gun violence in my neighborhood here in Oakland. Just the other night three people were shot about a block or so from my house. My wife, daughter, and I were rudely awakened by the sound of 20-30 shots fired in rapid succession.

So yeah... I welcome this type of legislation.

The bill will never pass (doesn't matter what side of the argument you are on).

How can I be so sure?  The author refers to it as an epidemic.  If he calls it a pandemic, then maybe...

Pandemic would imply this is a problem worldwide, but it’s really not. It’s mostly a homegrown American problem, but we do share it with a few crime-ridden third world countries.

I’m pretty sure the laws already put in place prevents everyone of them shooters your talking about from even holding a gun. Do you honestly think the gang members will give up there guns if this law was put in place? Honestly?

Meh...I`m more shocked that for a website dedicated to kayak angling , that there are still many on this site that do not seem to know the difference between PEDAL and PEDALING  versus PEDDLE and PEDDLING. Some of them own PEDAL kayaks no less.

I’m over this, dude. I have better things to do than replay a “debate” that we’ve already had numerous times. I’ve heard all your talking points many times, and you’ve heard mine.

You and I just don’t see things eye to eye, and we probably never will.

[/quotes do that’s perfectly okay, I’d still fish with ya if we ever cross paths. I’m just thinking our governing body has better things to do then take away more of our constitutional laws.

+1

I empathize with Alex B and his situation, but it is a no win situation.  I too would be extremely upset and concerned if my neighborhood had someone or more likely a group of people fire off 20 to 30 rounds.  Mojo does make a very valid (and the same point that is a big part of this discussion).
Now if it was Alex firing off 30 rounds at someone breaking into his home, then he should be able to do so.
Passing a law will never stop the actions that occurred in the neighborhood.  And arming and allowing people to carry firearms would not either.  Sad but true.

If anyone fired off 30 rounds in my neighborhood they would be returned with a few thousand from many directions You want neighborhood watch, well I have a dozen policemen and a boatload of ex military guys I live around and we are all armed to the hilt.

We all practice monthly to keep us sharp and have a neighborhood plan to protect it at all cost.

Meh.

This has been debated to death in the past here. It’s just another topic that people have stances on that won’t be changed.

Keep it on Facebook... or perhaps NWKA?
