An Allen / Pole Pole report from Valdez / Alsaka.....July 20,2007

Just got a call from Allen: A quick recap...

Lot's of ling cod caught....smallest one went 36 inches....the bigger ones went up to 44 inches....the Halibut bite was on...over 40 were caught but most were under 20 pounds - the action was constant!!!!

Lot's of video taken of whales breaching a few yards away, bears , eagles and other wild life up the ying yang

Just got back and here is just a sample of what was caught

Where I work I was talking to about a 9 year old girl from Alaska

When I asked her if her family fished she said "oh yeah, I caught a 180 lb halibut, and that fish didn't have a worm in it"

One of these days I want to get my father-in-law up there Where he fishes in China they use about a 30 ft pole with a fixed length of line and fish for something about 8" long

I'd like to see his face if he hooked up to a nice salmon

Oh my BUDDAH!! That's a massive Chinook!! At 50lbs. no less.. whoooo.. Congrats on that fish of a lifetime!!

Yes I did danglin, thanks for the tips. They are claiming that this year @ Moutcha there will be some 40-50 lbers. Then again, how do you predict that? Will rep NCKA!!

Just getting set to head out for the sharks tomorrow.  Here's a few more details but I don't have a whole lot of time to post right now and I can't get pics up.

Got to Valdez and the boat was broken.  So we lost 3 days and were only out camping for 2 nights.  Oh well, that's how things roll some times.  There are 30M pink salmon returning to Valdez so we fished for them and were constantly hooked up until our arms were sore.  Floated the Robe river in kayaks a couple times and caught a 12 pound coho and lots of dolly varden up to 26 inches, all on the fly.  That's a beautiful little drift there.  Finally the boat was fixed and we got to go camping.  Fished hard for 2 days and had non stop action on lings and butts.  Let me tell you, a 44 inch ling is really big.  I deck handed on the boat the last couple days and we caught a 51 incher ... now that huge.  We also had butts to 90 pounds, loads of large blacks (have you ever seen an 8 pound black?), lots of yelloweyes, and some bonus silvers.

Anyways, I gotta go run some errands before the rest of the guys get into town.  I donated a pair of sunglasses to the sea and need to replace them.  Will post a full report upon my return.

Pole Pole, I too donated a pair to the ocean. Thank goodness they were cheapies. Hope all goes well on your salmon shark trip. I heard they put a new meaning to "Alaskan Sleigh Ride" even in a power boat.

World record kayak catch
Four Four Hundred pound Sharks have been landed by Pole Pole,Scallen (with crew) this day on their trip at Valdez. According to Allen all four fish where brought to each Kayak under an hour. Not one, Not two, Not three but FOUR fourhundred pound sharks. More tommorrow. Call just came in not 10 minuets ago with one fired up guide proudly announcing their feat.

   That is Wild !!!!!  Can't wait for Pics
