Costco sells out of TP by 10am every day this week.
they restock it each night.
At least they had plenty of whiskey and meat!
these are strange days indeed.

two separate massive auto collisions on River St/Hwy 9 this morning. Can't help but wonder if they were connected to the current hysteria.

I'm a hospital clinician and we've already seen cases of it. Here's my 2c:

Yes, everyone is overreacting and it's being politicized. But I can understand why. people have died, and we tend to knee-jerk as a society to infectious disease. It's a novel virus and a lot of people like to speculate on statistics and compare to other diseases, but we simply need more time and research to see through the hype and hysteria and learn about how this disease really is. I'm glad people are using this as a wake up call for hygeine and health. Flu vaccinations are at an all time high this year; misguided fear, but I'll take it. Flu kills hundreds, if not thousands in the US every year, but you don't hear about it. Whatever it takes for people to take their own health seriously, because most people don't. We as a medical field don't have a lot of weapons for viruses or fungi, so this is a good push for R/D. I can name a hundred other infectious diseases that are worse/more deadly than corona seems so far, but only time will tell. I'd rather get corona than anything from a mosquito.

TL;DR:
Don't freak out, but take the health of yourself and others seriously. Wash your damn hands, please.

Thank you for your 2c......worth a lot more coming from you

So, now NHRA Gator Nationals cancelled in Florida and the next 2 NASCAR races will be conducted with no fans in the stands with only necessary crews and race officials in attendance.

my Girlfriend works in a dental office, and her cough got worse over the weekend, so she went to PAMF to get tested, they said they only have 50 tests a day and they have a screening process that she didn't pass to be able to get tested.

so she either doesn't have the right symptoms? or her case isn't as critical as someone older and in worse health?  she was diagnosed with pneumonia, given antibiotics and said she was okay to go back to work.  Her boss isn't quite as happy with that assessment.  She's currently taking sick days out of caution because they have so many children and elderly that are patients, co workers are working overtime to cover for her.

so even if you want to get tested, there just aren't enough tests.. there's no way to even get the data on this that we want, who is infected is just going to remain a mystery right now.

Nowhere has enough tests. My hospital doesn't have any. That's just the way it is. Right now, CDC guidelines are to screen for overseas travelers. Community acquired treat empirically for flu/pneumonia/common cold (rhinovirus etc). With such limited supplies, we have to triage according to a.) severity or b.) guidelines. Every MD worth their salt knows the best way to not get sued is to follow the guidelines. And if she's able to walk in and walk out, she's not severe enough. We have corona patients in the ICU on life support. She'll live. They may not.

I totally agree with that.  but tons of people are saying we don't have enough data, and say just go get tested.  It's not as simple as that unfortunately.

and seemed weird that they told her to go back to work, not to go home.

I've been personally calling Gilead and Genentech locally daily on behalf of my hospital. Tests are in short supply, that's just the way it is. The data will come out eventually, we just need to be patient. This is a new disease that we don't even know if it follows cyclical weather patterns yearly like the flu. We just need to put in the time and research. HIV took a decade to research, and it was scary at first, but now all of a sudden the life expectancy for HIV patients is IDENTICAL or even GREATER than the rest of the population with proper care. In due time, my friend. Wait till big pharma catches up with demand, they haven't yet. Might take a year or two.

President Trump’s claim that “anyone who wants a test can get a test.”

upset, no.  disappointed that each side is trying to spin this politically instead of just letting the medical world inform us, yes.  but like you said it is an election year.

IMHO, the one huge mistake that is being made is that they don’t tell us anything about new cases—like, where they traveled and when. The claim is that it’s a privacy issue, but I don’t see it. The countries that have been most successful in preventing/containing it are, it seems to me. South Korea and Taiwan, and both of them publish extensive details on each new case. We have much lower population density, so maybe we can get away with it, but it puts a lot more people at risk...

first quote is what I was reading earlier and replying to in terms of data.

Whenever politicians make promises about healthcare, everyone MD/DO/NP/PharmD I know laughs. Real change happens in my ER, in the ICU, on the front lines. Ain't seen nothin yet, and I'm not taking their word for it.

for more general purposes ;)

Seattle school closure extended to six weeks

Disneyland shut down til at least end of March.

Most JCs and universities in California shutting down all spring sports.

MLB spring training games cancelled, opening day delayed by at least 2 weeks.

And my trip in April has been cancelled or postponed, currently out about $6,000. Will probably recoup much of that, maybe all of it if there is a formal travel warning for either California or Massachusetts in the coming days due to terms of my travel insurance. United airlines has given a voucher for the nearly $3,000 in airplane tickets on top of the $6k that I need to use or lose by January 2021.

Day not over yet.

Man... Sorry to hear that, Doug.

This is all getting more real by the moment. Emails have been trickling in from our corporate offices all day as this unfolds. Suggestions are rapidly becoming requirements. I’m the local health and safety coordinator for our office in Emeryville and I just got my first email from a colleague who believes he was exposed. (I had just met one-on-one with this colleague on Monday.)

I’m just thankful that I’m able to work from home while this all shakes out.
