I pick the ones just a little larger than thumb size, closer to the top ,not near the sand
Cold water and cornmeal to purge for about 1.5-2 hours or longer ,sometimes over night
mirepoix to soft , minced garlic ,Italian Parsley, white wine, Cento San Maranzano crushed tomatoes,Kosher salt and pepper to taste
let simmer to bind the flavors
after 20 mins or so add Mussels, cook till open, strain broth, french bread or focaccia if i have it
then... ora di cena!
tutto bene !

Im planning to get there around 330. Not sure what to expect but I'll have a royal blue windbreaker on and probably look out of place. Im trying to convince a few buddies to join. Say hi if you see me!

The day mussels become scarce, we are going to have much bigger problems!!

I should be there sometimes around 3ish as well.  Might try and see if I can get some gaper clams as well.  Never really tide pooled at HMB so no idea what to expect either.  Hopefully can get mussels, clams, and possibly uni.  I'll be the Asian guy with a Chevrolet hat on with my gf and a friend.  Say hi if you see me, it'd be nice to meet some new people out there.

Went on a random drive and collected mussels a few days ago. Called the biotoxin hotline and gave it a go. Mussels were delicious!

So, did anybody actually harvest mussels today? I wasn't planning on it but since I've been sucking at perch fishing  I found the opportunity at low tide and plucked about 60pcs. before the sun went down! ( 9-10 lbs)...

Had an awesome time out there!! So many people using shovels, knifes, and other tool to pull them off. A shame really as they're not all that hard to remove by hand.

Cant wait to chef up!  I spent a good amount of time at HMB brewing co afterwards as well. Fantastic beers!

Yeah made it out around 4ish.  Stopped by the beach first to check for gapers, got one and then headed to the tide pools.  Saw so many people there with some using shovels and all sorts of tools.  We got about 8-10 lbs of mussels and a few sea urchins.  It was fun and happy the wind didn't pick up.  Made fried clam strips for apps and am now cooking the mussels in white wine, garlic and butter sauce with some home made baguettes.

I see the excitement going on with mussels in hand! I like to know more about the gaper clams! It sounds like a good day! My appetizer for 1 so, yummy after a days of fun!
