Went out yesterday after work for a few hours from my local beach for some salmon trolling. Of course I headed for the spot I caught my first salmon.. maybe a little too fast :smt003 I trolled the Coyote spoon and worked the spot. Back and forth about 5 times for 2 rock sole.. definitely trolling too deep. Although I'm pretty surprised, I was at least 10 feet off the bottom and these guys come all the way up. I switched out that spoon and worked a few others when the wind started to come up and make things difficult. I trudged through the sloppy conditions and headed to the waters right infront of where I launch. I threw on a mackerel pattern Kroc spoon, smelly Jelly and trolled there. I was just about done and heading in when I realized something just hit. It was small but definitely not a sole. It put up a good fight  and ended up being a 1 pound Pink. The hook really got in it's gills and was bleeding very badly so held onto him. Inspired by this last second catch I thought, if there's one there's many! I spun the yak around and went through where I thought the school was. Back and forth a few more times and BAM!! Fish ooooooon!! :smt007 :smt035 This was an excellent fight which beat my last salmon. He was jumping all over the place, dodging and weaving and made some runs that was just about smoking my reel! :headbang: I got it in close and it was a beauty just a bit larger than my best so far. That's when it proceeded to start jumping right next to me and almost went straight into the kayak. Another 5 minutes later and I netted it.. a 5 lb. Pink. A great way to finish the day! :smt007

Another VICTORIOUS paddle for the Z'ster!!
Gotta LUV the "HAILMARY hook-up", over the "Got-one-first-cast". If you get it early you figure it's gonna be like that ALL-DAY(never happens) as opposed to "Well at least i got out" then finish it wit a last minute BLAST of adrenaline!
I'll take the later everytime!!

Regs up here are insane! Puget Sound is broken up in areas and each has it's own rules. The rules change about every few weeks and there's also quotas for catches so it could close earlier or later than expected. In general you can keep 2 salmon plus 2 additional pink salmon. Pink generally run in the 2-5 lb. range and only return to spawn on odd numbered years... whew!!

I have my area regs posted on the wall of my man cave so I check that and then call the Wa DFG hotline to check for closures or special rules every time I go out. Then there's catch records... sure is beautiful though. Saw a huuge bald eagle yesterday.. AWESOME! :smt007
