Not sure of my schedule, but I was thinking it might be time to make another run out the Gate.  Tide on Sunday 8/5 looks interesting:

08/05/2007 Sun 05:33AM LDT 4.0  H  10:33AM LDT 2.0  L  05:22PM LDT 6.3  H

Small outgo early, then ride the bigger flood on in from Bonita Cove!  A little more current then when we did the trip last year but at least its flowing in the right direction.  I'll check the tables for some other good weekend days in Sept. and Oct.

Here's the map for those unfamiliar with the location...

Just noticed the map didn't attach...Let's try that again.  You're right Ben,  some Rockies were caught right outside the cove.  My newbie friend got 2 on his first drop!

There's a drop off off of horseshoe thats way deep. Shore fishers land big sevengills there.
Next week after work for sure.

I fished the Bonita Cove on Saturday after a lousy day of fishing for Salmon at Dux, Slide Ranch, Muir and other areas.  The big DFG catamaran with it's little Rib inflateable was checking for license and barbless hooks.  In the cove, we caught and released rock cod(s), and one underling, but did pickup a legal halibut.  The key is live bait to fish that cove.  I think it was last year when they picked up WSB in that cove.  It is a perfect place to fish with the hills protecting it from the wind.  If bait is in the cove, you stand a good chance of catching all types of fish including Striped Bass.  The cove is heavily fished by the "Wire Liners" (guys in Center Console boats) but it continues to produce.

Good Luck to you.

Luis

there is also a sweet halibut drift right off of Kirby. I haven't done it in a yak, but many times in a boat... on incoming, start just outside the W rock- current should carry you across kirby, then a weird little swirl in, and back a bit toward bonita...

Horseshoe Cove/Ft. Baker (see map).  EASY harbor-type launch with tons of parking right at the water.  However, I may now be going for some of the PIGS they're catching at Dux on a friend's boat.  I will post an update by Friday.  There should be some more tide-friendly days coming in Sept. and Oct. (we did Oct. last year).

If you end up going, I could well be in.  Especially if the launch isn't too early  :smt001    Have launched many times out of there to tide-ride around Angel Island and play in the rips at Yellow Bluff, but never went the other way to fish.  Anything with fins would make my day.

I forgot the Elk thing was this weekend so that may be cutting in to the attendance.  Looks like I'll be trolling Dux in a 52' Sea Ray on Sunday...Your tide ride to Angel Island sounds fun.  There are fish to be caught under the bridge and along the coast!  Just paddling under the bridge is a blast!  I will scout the tides in Sept and Oct and post another hookup.   :smt006

Hope to catch you another time M. S.

I'm going to make for that launch around the max ebb at 10:30, thinking that if fishing and conditions aren't good, I'll just paddle back on the slack at 1:00.  If anyone else is still going, look for a yellow foldup yak!

For that matter, it could be good to go out of Sausalito and enjoy the Yellow Bluff rip on the way.  I'm 510 684 9786.
