Hello All,

My name is Jon and I am based out of Santa Clara.  I got into ocean kayaking the last 1.5 years and have spent some time in Half Moon Bay and Bodega Bay crabbing.  I am looking to learn more about kayaking and crabbing to improve my skills.

I am also very interested in learning how to fish from the kayak.  I have only been fishing once and it wasn't on a kayak so I have a lot to learn.  I have been watching YouTube channels for some of the NCKA members and have been slowly acquiring gear but have been hesitant to go out on my own.  I would love any recommendations for classes or tours where I might be able to gain some experience.   Also if anyone is interested in a tag along on any outing, I would love the opportunity to meet people and learn.

I am currently rocking a Tarpon 120 and tandem Tribe 13.5 for going out with friends.  I am very interested in getting a hobie mirage kayak but am a little nervous about the investment thought it seems like the best option for ocean crabbing\fishing.  Any thoughts on the trade offs between paddle and peddle would be great as well.

I look forward to joining the community and thanks in advance for any and all feedback.

There is another one on this forum that is a PDF format but I can't find it. Do a search on here and a lot of info will pop up. Rainy days are coming up soon...best to search then.

Hobie's are great kayaks especially for keeping your hands free while on the move.

Thanks for the advice on the crab rigging.  With the late registration available for Crab Fest I am excited to put some of this to use.

Hopeful I will get a chance to meet some of you guys out there.

You mean this PDF attached :smt006
Also if you look to the left frame of this page, second link from the bottom (kayak crabbing) is another good read.

Jon, I'm going out crabbing this week from Rockaway Beach in Pacifica at least Monday and Tuesday as long as conditions are alright, and would be down to hang out.
