Almost zero experience

But eager for the adventure. Is anyone around that would like to train/guide on local lakes as weather allows? Near Sacramento. 

Welcome to NCKA Buttercup  . The closest guide from you that I would highly recommended is Allen aka Bushy in Santa Cruz area.  He is an experienced ocean guide but I think he will do fresh water too.  Send him a message if you’re interested.
