this may not be news to some of you, but yesterday and today featured the best salmon fishing of the season.  right in front of moss landing.  tons of bait balls, the moochers are going crazy catch and release action the fishing is so good.

Have safe, be fun.  have your net ready.  Watch for silvers in the mix, and i wish i could be there too!!

Thanks Allen, for a while there I didn't think anyone believed me.  By the way your books are down at Bayside, they are above the door on a shelf if Todd is not there.

Of the two boats I talked to today one being me and my dads. They caught limits.  Our boat with three aboard got them 45-55 feet down on the troll with watermelon apex no flasher.  A better grade today than yesterday as fish were up to 15 lbs with one barely legal.  The other boat got limits for three, with mostly small fish, and two fish on the mooch.  Wind came up before noon I think.

My dad saw one kayak out there, so I hope it was someone from the board, and I hope he did well.

I too will be there Saturday as long as the bite is still on as of Friday.  If not I will plan on going down to Big Sur for another epic fishing day.  I hope to see you there.

Salmon seem to prefer dead bait to live, though I have cught on both.

frozen anchovies are fine.  threded if possible.  Remember barbless circle hooks only while mooching.

My buddie is out talking with the boats cumming in. (as i type)"one commercial fisherman said most fish he hooked were small and moving out about two miles from the Jaws for the evening. So for those who are fishing tomorrow morning should have a great day cause theres a lot of salmon being caught and released.

The Kahuna with 13 anglers was two short of there limit. Lots of hookup's

I'd be ready for both if I were you.  Troll as soon as you think you're in potentially fishy water, and stop to mooch if the conditions are right.

Go get 'em, folks!  Good luck.   :smt001

I would troll around with a water mellon apex with an 8 oz banana sinker (vary your speed from time to time) till I see a really thick baitball and start "trooching" with a frozen chovy.

How long of a leader do you recommend for that rig?

Most go longer....but I use 3 to 4 foot leaders. When trooching I'll go down to 15# leader but when trolling I'll bump it up to 20#.
