Nicely done KPD! Nice chatting with you in the lot.

funny, I anticipated lots of kayaks out there yesterday, and only saw a few even though the weather was primo other than the swell.
Crab was very slow for us, but we got some.

Seems we're seeing more and more cluelessness out there.  Be ready.

IMO there is zero excuse for it.
With SO much info out there today it absolutely floors me when this happens.
Strong work KPD!

total with you but sometimes accidents happen. Ignorance is inexcusable but one of these days we're all going to need some sort of assistance.

I have a feeling if you actually seen it in person you’d be surprised there aren’t more incidents.  Last trip out for crab we seen yaks coming out with paddlers in jeans and flannels, danielson traps stacked two high on the bow and stern; yaks aimlessly paddling in the middle of the channel between the jaws, and there was major vessel traffic; and another strange scene in which one dude with a motorized Hobie was towing another guy with an identically rigged Hobie......I think it may have run out of gas and instead of coming in under his own power he just took the tow.

Times have changed.  I think that a lot of us got into this with previous experience on the water in various capacities. Combined with the fact that most of what we were doing was new  or undocumented, we progressed slowly or with more caution.

Now you can get on Instagram or YouTube and see tankwells full of fish and crab come easy. It’s not an adventure anymore, people get tunnel vision on meeting their catch expectations with minor consideration for the unknown variables.

Someone get this guy a beer, that was way too long of a response for an ex-kayaker.   :smt005

I totally agree with you on this, been seeing this more the past several years.  When I first got into this sport, very few youtube videos of kayak fishing, but now everyone and their mommas doing it...making people think its easy.  But maybe this is just natures way of weeding out the weak?   :smt044

And good on you for helping that guy out KPD!
If you ain't first, you're last.

right on Krishna. NCKA is a stand up group, and we prove it with every assist/rescue. I think the long term goal is to have everyone self sufficient and aware of the safety issues of kayak fishing before heading out.

Maybe a concerted effort from the youTubers to send out a collective message to bring more awareness
to this [safety] issue? Just a thought. --TLA

As a professional kayak fishing guide, I always let my clients know there is an extra charge for self and assisted rescue lessons (While they are in the water).

Especially if it’s a big guy

Seriously though Bushy there’s money in that idea. You could rig the kayaks for failure

Ya, maybe pre-load them with six or seven gallons of water in the hull.  Or, stick the client in my Scupper Pro.  That's usually enough to do the trick!!
