I stopped by Linda Mar to check it out...looked flat other than a few big sets coming in. A party boat was working way out in the cove - it looked to be trolling. I'd say it was too far out for stripers and too far from the rocks for rockfish...maybe salmon? Anyone have any info?
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Sorry, this wasn't really a fishing report, but it looked like SOMETHING was happening out there!

I can't blame you for asking.  Many of us are anxiously waiting for the salmon to make a showing like they did two years ago.  I just don't want to get my hopes up and then let down like the last two years. :smt010

Jselli.... if you're reading this... stop posting about the calm conditions and birds crashing bait at Linda Mar.  It's not helping.   :BangHead: :smt040

It was crazy.  Salmon limits in as quick as 10 minutes and as close as 100 yards from the beach.  I landed about 18 salmon that summer.  I think Mooch landed nearly 30.  He was even fishing after work and scoring limits.

Then I bought my kayak and killed the bite...

I had actually started fishing that summer, but wasn't salmon-aware yet...

So Bill, I share your blame...  :smt011

tell us more about the 'old days'!

actually my theory is that Blue Kayak IS salmon. if he cant go fishing much,
the salmon just cease to be....  :smt010

We caught 30 on the tandem that year...The earliest day was back home and washed up by 9AM with 4 salmon for 2.

Another day my other brother (there are quite a few of us) and I saw a pier-style bobber floating a ways off, and we thought, "let's pick up some litter," so we paddled over and as we got closer the bobber started teetering back and forth and then took off! We chased it down and I managed to hook my Apex thru it and fish on!

I hand-lined it to the net and we had a 26" salmon...that was cool! We limited that day as well...

Threshers were jumping and whales were inside Linda Mar cove a few times that year...and mola molas were EVERYWHERE!

We also trolled up two nice stripers one day as well as a few little salmon.

Those were the good old days.

When were the old good days? All of those were on the same year (04)? I started fishing late 05. The good days passed on me, w/o notice.  :smt075

Man back in the old days (04) I would drive up to Pacifica from SLO on weekends and catch and release salmon all day trying to get a limit of monster. The bite was wide open all summer. Now it is all but dead. One night my brother and I were coming in from a day of catching salmon with limits, and found or selves in a huge school of busting stripers just outside the surf, I dont think we made to our cars until 11pm.

My best memory of Linda Mar 2004.........Fred Savage and I ran out of fresh bait so we paddled close to shore to make some more bait. While I was busy rigging my sabiki rod, we were parked at 10 feet of water (just by the surfer line up) I had my mooching rig still in the water with my last chovy 5 ft. below the yak.....as soon as I had my sabiki rod organized and ready to make bait, I reached over to my mooching rod and it goes bendo before I could even touch it  :smt104.......FISH ON!!!...then I lost it from a head shake  :smt013 At this point, I was convinced it was a striper....so I reeled in and my chovy was chewed out of recognition but it was still whole. I dropped it down again and as soon as I put it on the rod holder, it goes bendo again....HULI KA!!! This time, the hook stayed and my yak slowly got pulled away from the line up.....Fred and I could not believe it  :smt118 A few minutes later, I had a 10 pound King on my deck  :headbang:

Those WERE da days  :smt023

The majority of the fish that year were 8 to 12 pounders....small fish but they sure made up by their numbers  :smt045 The year after, I believe Colm and Jason each caught a few of the bigger ones...24 to 25 pounders. IMO: Linda Mar 04 season will be hard to beat.....but I hope not  :smt002

Well if we are lucky those 2004 fish will return as 3 year old fish in 2007. Wait this is 2007! Or 2008 as 4 year old fish.

Maybe squid ate the large schools of salmon?

If only there was a simple equation.  :smt011

Are squid fast enough to catch salmon?

In those days we would get a few limits by 6:30 and be at work before 10am!!  The guys at the office were wondering why I was so sleepy sometimes!  One time I saw a guy land a Salmon from the Moss landing jetty!   We got some just past the first green bouy too.  Those were the days!!!

Then the tuna came in close...wow, that was awesome.  My first time out,  I landed an Albi that pegged my scale at 50lbs and caught a few more nice ones.  I was hooked after that!! They were only 10 to 20 miles out.  The bluefin came in close one week and my buddy landed a 140lber only around 15miles off of Santa Cruz.  I saw huge bluefin jumping around me but I couldn't catch them.  It was an awesome site!!!
