Even with a 30% discount, that seems to me a bit expensive when a zip-lock bag inside a dry bag   works for me.  After all, how often do you need to make a phone call when fishing?  But then again, I'm a cheap bastard.

There are a lot of options for sure.  But, if you do use it (live stream, pic, facebook, insta, twit, etc), this may help.  In my case, I have my navionics that i use on my phone.  Pics and video are given.

I use a cellphone dry bag I bought years ago.  Similar on Amazon for less than $10 with a strap I put around my neck.  Can not take pics with mine in dry bag as back is not clear, but can make and take calls.

Be careful wearing anything strapped around your neck. That shit can get tangled or snagged when trying to get back in your boat. In fact, all leashed gear can be a clusterfuck when trying to get back in your boat after a capsize. I only leash my paddle.

Cheap dry bag I phone 7 around the neck tucked inside my pfd to reduce tangles and snags..... my grandson (7) has one for when he’s riding his scooter, quad or bike... works great but there’s a 95% chance he won’t be landing in the ocean or bay and getting submerged. So unless your phone is 100% waterproof a dip in the drink and you might as well let it sink.

How do you plan to use that lanyard? Is your phone waterproof so you can keep it tethered to yourself?

I take safety on the water pretty seriously, so I like to have both a cell phone and VHF attached to myself when I venture offshore. My iPhone X is only “kindof” waterproof, so I put it in a Catalyst waterproof case (expensive, but better than Lifeproof in my opinion). The case has a lanyard loop, so it’s easy to tether it and stash it in one of my PFD pockets.

Yes, my phone, Samsung Galaxy Note8 is rated IP68, the water resistance rating of 8 (water-resistant up to 5 feet for up to 30 minutes).  However, I typically carry my cellphone in a dry box and only plan to use it if my fish finder fails.  With a lanyard, I might be willing to use to take some photos.  I am more worry about dropping the phone in the ocean than getting wet.

Ah. Gotcha. For me it’s more a matter of having a second/backup means of communication attached to myself in the unlikely (but entirely possible) scenario where I end up in the water and get separated from my kayak.

The most place I go fishing along the Sonoma and Mendocino coasts, don't have any cell phone coverage and it is only useful as a GPS unit.

Right on. I sometimes use mine for GPS, too, when my Lowrance is acting up. (Navionics app).

A cell phone saved my live once, not the radio.  Go figure ...

Alex, my phone is IP68 waterproof.  I would not ever go with a cell phone that's not waterproof.  See above.

I am thinking about ordering this one based on its 4.5 reviews.
Good find!  I may try this one, but I looked at the strap, is about 16" long, that's pretty short (or perfect, depending on your preference).
