I want to replace the "cheep" wheels that came with my Hobie Adventure. I beach launch most of the time but would like wheels that can handle dirt roads as well. Is it better to have a cart or wheels that fit in the skupper holes?

Confused,
Donald

Those scupper hole carts scare me. I have heard at least 3 stories of people using them and tearing there scuppers right before they luanch and not noticing until they are on the water.

There is only one cart - http://www.gwkc.com/carts.htm or http://www.kayakfishinggear.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=155

Last cart you will ever own, unless you need to change the tires  :smt003

Scuppers are notorious for being the weak link in sot kayak construction. Hobie engineering is pretty well thought out though. I've tested the Roleeze style wheels on a homemade cart it will handle pavement, rocks, dirt, sand, mud, and stairs. I had regular style cart wheels at the Elk tourney and that was all it took to change my mind. IMHO they are the best all around. Heres a picture of Sean from GWKC on our last windy trip.

In my opinion the fine folks at Hobie don't / didn't anticipate people using their plug in carts on kayaks loaded down with 3 rods and reels, 10 lbs of tackle, a bait tank / live well, a safety kit, and 20 or 30 lbs of today's catch. Out of caution, I wouldn't use a plug-in cart on anything but a bare hull - actually, personally, I won't use them at all.

My Hobie cart exploded a few months back and recently got the Wheelez cart w/ big balloon tires. The cart rocks in all conditions.. and on the beach she's a cruisin' Caddilac. Only drawback I see is I just can't fit dem tires in my hatches so I gotta strap the thing behind my rear tankwell..

Mine came with the Wheelez, and the wheels pop right off the bar and stow easily in my front hatch.  Heck I could probably fit the whole thing in the front without detaching them, it is a pretty large hatch.  I am now slightly concerned though about putting them through the scupper holes.  I'm not sure if mine are deformed or made this way, but one of the holes is slightly oval rather than round and its not a tight fit.  The hull rests on a padded bar which seems to take the weight off the poles going through the scuppers.  Not sure that I would be willing to drag it up stairs like above, but it seems reasonable for most carrying situations.

Awesome! I guess the Adventure hatch is a little bigger than the Outback. I think with smaller wheels it would fit but those big balooney tires are just too big.

I have to agree with Allen's image of the scupper holes and stress fractures. Having had a Hobie fail structurally at Bean Hallow I didn't want to stress them out any further and bought the Rolleeze ballons rather then even the pneumatic tires that is the upgrade to the original hard plastic tires that are made for the Hobies.
Like Zeelander I can't store them in the hatch so they must store in the rear well or get left behind.

WOW!  Did you get your hull replaced after those stress cracks?    My OB, although I haven't loaded it down with all the stuff you mentioned, hasn't cracked there yet.  I'll be checking those now, in my "prefloat" check.
