Hi All NCKA,

I'm really stoked to have just joined the NCKA, there seems to be an active community of yakers/ divers here with a lot of experience.
A bit about myself:
Username: LuckyLuke (obviously^)
Real Name: Lucas Salem
Occupation: Water Resources Engineer in San Rafael
Residence: Fairfax, CA
Kayak: None rn :(
Experience fishing:
Kayak fishing for 2 seasons while studying at Cal Poly, SLO. Mostly from Spooners Cove in MDO, sometimes N. Cayucos or Cambria.
My setup was very amateur and low budget (12ft wilderness systems riot w/o fish finder) but still had tons of fun with big verms and occasional ling/cabbie. Did the Central Coast Slam Down in 2017. Recently did a 3-day Tuna trip from San Diego with Shogun Sportfishing (highly recommend) so I've got just over 100lbs of yellowfin packed in my freezer right now. Also have done some alpine fishing for rainbows, cutthroat, etc.
My goal is to get back into yak fishing with a grownup setup (outback or revo) and start freediving soonish (probably next spring).
Look forward to meeting y'all!

Welcome, Luke!

I cut my kayak fishing teeth in those same waters while I was studying at Cal Poly (studied civil/environmental engineering - finished my MS in 2010). These days IÂ’m living in Oakland, but plan to move back up to my stomping grounds in Sonoma County within the next few years. (City life is wearing me out...)

I fish from a Hobie Outback and I really have no complaints whatsoever. ItÂ’s a great platform for all the fishing I do out here - which mostly means trolling for salmon these days.

Hit me up if you have any questions about picking a kayak and rigging it up. Happy to help.

Cheers,

~Alex

Thanks all for the Welcome!

AlexB, trolling for Salmon is a definite goal of mine for next season. I will definitely hit you up when I get serious about buying a new yak and would love to learn the ropes of trolling w/ mirage from a fellow mustang  :beer2.

Hi Lucas,

Welcome to the forum. I live in the east bay but work in Fairfax. I'm not sure I will ever have one of the grownup kayaks... I'm enjoying the lightweight child's yak to much. Good trout fishing just a couple of miles up the road from Fairfax.

Welcome, LL.

Can't go wrong with a Hobie...
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?
