Hi
Bought this radio 3 years ago for about $80 and it has served me well all this time. The clip that holds the battery on suddenly broke off and needed replacing. A quick Google didn't turn up much except somebody on Amazon who had a similar problem they mentioned in the reviews. So I looked at Uniden's website and found the part I needed for $3.50. A little pricey for a small plastic piece but whatever. Shipping was $5 from TX which seemed steep for something you could throw in an envelope and a stamp. Took 10 days for it to get to CA. Wasn't sure how to get the pin the latch is held on with off and didn't want to force it so I called Customer service and talked to some doofus who didn't know anything but said he would talk to the repair dept. Emails there next day and says Repair won't tell me how to remove the pin but for a flat rate of $50.00 and $10.00 shipping they will fix it. So I just popped the pin out using a 1/16 drill bit and a hammer which worked well. I'm writing this to help out anyone else who might have a similar problem with this popular unit.

I had a similar problem with a West Marine radio. It fell about 6” onto the deck of my kayak, and the plastic latch that held the battery in broke off. They offered to replace it or refund my money. I took the latter as it seemed like a design flaw.

Anyways, seems crazy that they’d want $50 for such a minor fix. I think I’ll stick with Standard Horizon...
I don't like stuff that sucks.
