Great day on the water yesterday! Calm seas, 4-5 kayakers out with a herd of party boats.

Nate is a really cool and down to earth guy. He has one hell of a truck too. Bradley and I went out and met them on the water.  No filthy lings but a few nice halibut as back up :smt001 :smt001 plan. Both those guys killed it. They found the fish and put a hurting on them.Congrats! :smt001 :smt001

Kieth, thank you for the kind words and guidance. Call it luck, especially with the total newbie over-eager reeling in was doing!

The bass was 35" and I think the salmon was 36"? That king was football for sure.

Obligatory truck glamour shot:

It's payment you just got to make Nate. Everyone has to learn one way or another. All of us have had our share of heart breaks. Keep peddling and keep the fish behind you until it starts to float upside down. If it is still swimming when it is close to you it will have at least one or two last dashes. (Prepare for it).  It's just he cost of doing business in the ocean. Glad you got at least a chrome bite  :smt001 --TLA

Great day on the water yesterday! Calm seas, 4-5 kayakers out with a herd of party boats.

It was a great day indeed.

Started the day trolling for hali towards the salmon fishing grounds. Picked up a 22" butt, two croakers and a short ling. Didn't want to waste more bait so we headed towards the fleet and trolled around 50-60 FOW. We followed the birds and circled around a massive bait balls. Nate picked up his first striper, bloody deck and it was massive. Then, Nate hooked up on a salmon at 35' on the DR.  Heart break unsued as the fish didn't want to cooperate and spat the hook out next to the boat. I then dropped my line to 35' on the DR and FISH ON!!!!
Fish gave a good fight, took many extended runs during the battle, nearly and eerily crossing the path of my fellow kayakers nearby. The fish finally gave and exhaustively went in the net. Measured at 34" with a massive shoulder.
Trolled around searching for limits for a few more hours to no avail. Trolled for more butts on our way back to shore. Keith picked up a massive butt only to be disappointed as it wasn't his target fish, and the fish did not break the 40" mark.
Great meeting scurvy and fishing with him. Such a character.
And to my new fishing buddy, Nate. We will get them next time. We will go out for a redemption trip.

Despite a very slow day for me, I had a great time hanging with my buddy TLA and meeting Nate & Shalom. You 2 really tore it up today and it is always a thrill to be right next to the folks who are catchin’, that’s why we do this crazy thing called “fishing…"

Hey Scurvy! Great meeting you too and looking forward to the next time. You were a big help as well. I literally knew ZERO about how to rig for halibut 10 minutes before launch and your guys sorted me out. Many many thanks!!
