Going to give tomales a shot tomorrow. I figure a bunch of people will be there but I’ll make a hook up thread.

Lunch at miller park/nicks cove pre-dawn. Radio Ch69. Going to head south against the tide first, then drift north with the tide. Rinse and repeat.

I’ll be in a camo outback and grey ram truck. Hope to find some live bait for my baittank (I’ll share). Probably bring some popsicles too. Oh and be throwing swimbaits while I soak bait.

I have spares if anyone wants to try halibut fishing but doesn’t know what they need.

I got a 35” a few weeks ago out there and a 39.25” in 2016. I’d love to break into the halibut 40 club in tomales with a PB sized one!

I really like the chance for interesting bycatch. Stripers, seabass, salmon, sharks and whatever else swims in there!

I'm loaded but maybe... if I do go, I'll launch at Marshall.  Lawson's posted a decent report from down there.

Absolutely beautiful out there today! Very little winds, good tides, great weather.

The fishing on the other hand was not nearly as good as the weather!

I got OTW before the sun and headed a bit south. There were patches of bait around and I was able to get some anchovies and one mackerel. I also caught perch and jacksmelt that we’re too big to use for bait.

I was skunked until the tide was going slack around 10am. All of a sudden the bait balled up really well and the pelicans started putting on a great diving show! I lost my first hook up while securing my second rod. Shortly after I saw somebody getting towed by what turned out to be the biggest Ray I’ve ever seen. They were headed my direction so I was watching and offered to help. While I was distracted by that of course I get a bite  :smt003 Luckily everything went smoothly and I got a little 27” onto the game clip. I drifted around some more but couldn’t get any more bites. Packed up and headed home by noon. I would have stayed longer but I have stuff to do today.

Lots of kayakers out. Some I knew, some I met, and some that I saw from a distance.

3 bat rays, 1 short Halibut, 2 bites that was it for me today at Tomales. Eddie needs to be there for me to get keepers, so far I’ve caught a keeper every time he is there, and skunks when he’s not. I catch just fine everywhere else, so I’m not going there anymore unless Eddie is there. However, Eddie hasn’t caught a keeper at Tomales when I’m there.

Congrats on your 27 incher John.  :smt006 I have one big take down south of Hog Island that broke my hook in half.  :smt010 and also lost one on Sabiki while jigging for bait.
