I find myself needing a Lowrance HDI 83/200 455/800 Skimmer Transducer - the one that came with the old Elite and Hook (Series 1) fish finders.

If you have one in good condition you might part with, please let me know.

Tinker -

I have a Mark 4 head (B & W) and 2 transducers for it. One transducer has a mangled plug at the head connection.

My Elite 4 head (color) head was toasted after a turn over in the salt, so I purchased the Mark 4 head on Ebay.

Have sold both boats that were outfitted with the Lowrance transducers and still have one good complete system.

Can part with all if interested?

Thanks, Izod.  It's somewhere between mighty hard and impossible to repair or splice together a transducer cable - YMMV - so I'd be interested in the one that works.

PM me with more details, please?

I've never tried it, but it looks like it's not that hard to splice a transducer cable...

Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Looks like it.  What finder used it?  That's the easiest way for me to know for sure.

I have one

Tell me more...

Thanks, SlackedTide.  I agree that it's not hard to splice and solder wires, but from what I've been told the accuracy/reliability of the unit goes right to hell when you try to repair a transducer cable.  I don't know that for sure, and certainly Lowrance would rather sell a new transducer than have me repair one, but their technicians say "Don't even try!"

That's the transducer I'm looking-for, Sean.  Thank you.  If it's something you'd be willing to part with, please PM me.

Kevin my friend, I have one that I accidentally drug behind my trailer (boat was on backwards & hatch popped open) dragging it took the lock nuts off, you can have it as I was given one from trog5050 (NWKA). You just need to put the plastic nuts off another one on, as I tested it and it still works. But I’ll gladly cut and super shorten the wires and re-test it on the lake for the benefit of knowing if it can be done for the group since I have another one that works and you don’t want it.

Mr. Jojo, wherever did you get the idea we're friends?  Holy cow!   :smt003

Shoot me a photo of the transducer before you start cutting and patching, please?  It'll be Gooped to the hull of a kayak, so looks are less important than function and it's hard to beat "free".

Here's what I just learned in a long conversation with Lowrance.  Yes, they can be cut, but length matters - they're antenna cables and they have to be multiples of x (he wouldn't tell me what x equals) long to match the signal sine wave or accuracy will be degraded, and if you cut and splice, you need to carefully replace the shielding on the wires.

There could be another issue, too, because a coiled cable actually amplifies the signal enough to be of more benefit than the impedance of the longer cable run.

Huh?

And we have to add in that how you're using the unit may effect whether or not you see a change in the unit's performance, or: what works for you might not work for everyone.

In a secret aside, I was told cutting the cable is discouraged because you - you, Mojo, not me - might not get a waterproof seal on the cable and then everything goes right to hell.  Shhh!  Don't tell anyone.

Send me a photo.

Okay, I'm back to hunting for a transducer.  Sean was kind enough to send me one from his Elite DSI unit, but - and this is entirely my fault - it wasn't the right transducer for my unit.

Sean, if you want it back, let me know and I'll send it right away.

I'm hoping to find a Lowrance 83/200/455/800kHz HDI Skimmer Transducer (Part #000-10976-001) - it's the puck-shaped one that came with the Elite and Hook HDI series finders (https://www.lowrance.com/lowrance/type/sonar-transducers/lwr-hdi-6ft-m-h-455800-7pn-bl-1-pk/)

I only need the transducer but if you want to sell more than that, let me know, please?
