What up fellow yakers.  I was looking at some old photos and saw An old pic from 05’.  It’s a photo of my first kayak that got me into kayak fishing.  I’ve been fishing since pops showed me how at the age of 12.  I was always a bank fisherman and have caught a lot of things.  I’m 53 now and that was a long time ago.  The photo is of my sun dolphin journey ss.  It was cheap, tracked poorly, and wasn’t suited for anyone over 5’6”.  After purchasing it,  I made modifications to help reduce its weaknesses and have used it in all the local lakes, rivers, and the bay for halibut and strippers.  I now use a Mantaray propel for most of my fishing.  I thought it would be fun to remind everyone about their first fishing kayak and if their willing, to post a picture of their first kayak that started it all.         “Fish on”

Haha I still have it and use it when I don’t feel like lugging around a 100 lb kayak.  The oldie is only 45 lbs.

Here's my first kayak, with some dorky guy standing in front of it.

That's a Hurricane Phoenix 120, which is a little less than 11.5' long and weighs a little over 40 pounds. I got it in 2011 and used it to fish out of New Brighton and Capitola tons of times. It was great for beach launches, not so great for covering any sort of distance.

Eventually, I discovered that I suck at paddling, so I got a pedal kayak. I gave that kayak away to my brother and he still uses it to fish for bass in midwestern lakes. But, I wish I'd kept it...

No picture of it, but mine was an Ocean Kayak Frenzy, ironically newer than all but one of the boats I've got now. Sold it after 2 or 3 paddles, and don't miss it one little bit. It was a cumbersome, zig zaggin hull slappin' POS machine.
14' Necky Dolphin, fast and wiggly, no room for anything.
